State ‘passport’ comes with ‘tour guide’

Anyone who lives in or visits Louisiana can see that it is a cradle of unique history and culture, but there are many state residents who are unaware of where those traditions originated. With the sluggish economy and people sticking close to home this summer, being transported back in time at Louisiana’s museums is a great way to “vacation” on the cheap.
Now, state residents have an incentive to learn more about the culture and history of Louisiana by participating in the Heroes and Heritage Trail, a Secretary of State promotion. The city has more to offer than you might think.
Those who visit Baton Rouge should take the time to explore not just the tourist attractions but other parts of the city as well. As a former resident with a special place in my heart for the “Red Stick,” as it’s called, allow me to be your unofficial tour guide.

But even our community colleges weren’t spared the budget axe as the Louisiana Community and Technical College System took a $2 million cut for the upcoming 2010-11 academic year.
