Paradigm Gym cuts ribbon

The Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Paradigm Gym. Paradigm is a 37,000 square foot state-of-the-art gym/recreation facility. It will accommodate area and state tournaments. The facility includes training pits and trampolines and offers classes for male and female, all ages including 40+. Classes offers are Parkour, gymnastics (rec & competition), trampoline, yoga and tumbling.

Sunday Movie Review “The Mummy”

“The Mummy” is the first official entry in the “Dark Universe,” a franchise where Universal aims to revive its classic movie monsters and have them mingle. Think of it as a variation on the Marvel and DC Extended Universes. I have to wonder if “The Mummy” as a character is the best entry point for this series. Isn’t “The Mummy” kind of low-tier for this big of a role? Probably the only reason we’re getting The Mummy instead of power players like Dracula or Frankenstein’s Monster is that “Dracula Untold” and “Victor Frankenstein” flopped so badly.

Sorority helps refresh park

Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Psi Omega Chapter refreshed Gramping Park recently. As part of the 1908 Playground Project, members of the sorority renew and refresh playgrounds and parks around the country in the month of May. This project encourages litter prevention and increases chapter awareness on the importance of enviromental protection. NCLAC offers artist billboard contest

North Central Louisiana Arts Council has partnered with Driggers Outdoor to present an opportunity for NCLAC Member Artists.
One NCLAC member artist will be chosen from entries received to have an image of his/her artwork publicly displayed on a billboard for a six-month period of time.
The featured artist will change every six months.
The Spring 2017 call is open to Mixed Media submissions. Submission dimensions must be 30 ft wide by 10 ft high (a 3:1 ratio.) Submissions will not be accepted if they are not submitted in the correct format.

Local artist visits Lions Club

Local artist Douglas Walton was a recent guest of the Ruston Lions Club. Walton and some of his students were trapped in Nepal for several day in 2015 after an earthquake there.

Peach eating contest slots still open

Many peaches will be consumed, and it will get messy, during the Cobbler Gobbler and Peach Eating Contests at the 67th annual Louisiana Peach Festival.
The $1,000 grand prize Cobbler Gobbler Eating Contest sponsored by Hampton Inn of Ruston will take place at 7 p.m. June 24 at Railroad Park while the Peach Eating Contest, reserved for youngsters ages 17 and under, will take place at 4 p.m. June 23 at Railroad Park.

Citizens group knocks Paris accord reversal

Congressman says U.S. right to pull out of agreement

A new local environmental activist group said it’s disappointed but not surprised by President Trump’s recent decision to cancel the United States’ commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement.
The Lincoln Parish Concerned Citizens Environmental Group said Trump is looking backwards when it comes to his stance on reducing greenhouse gases.
“By withdrawing from the Paris agreement, the United States is going in the diametrically opposite direction from the economic future and the rest of the world,” group member Johnny Armstrong said.
