Suspect sought in shooting

Ruston Police Department is eliciting the help of residents to apprehend a suspect in a shooting which occurred Friday night.
Deputy Chief Clint Williams said officers from the Uniform Patrol Division of the RPD responded to Sikes Street in reference to a shooting. 
“Upon arrival, officers located the shooting victim lying in the doorway of a residence on Sikes Street,” he said. “The victim had suffered a single gunshot wound.”
The Ruston Fire Department-EMS responded to the scene to transport the victim to Northern Louisiana Medical Center for treatment of his injury.

Mobile food approved for Ruston

Ruston’s Planning and Zoning Commission made history Monday night when it approved the first mobile food vending application made under the city’s amended zoning ordinance.
Commissioners unanimously approved Central Oil and Supply’s request to place a food truck at the Valero gas station and convenience store located at 1110 N. Trenton St. The hamburger vending truck will be on the southwest corner of the property.

Okra rises to greatness

Choudrant’s John Livingston is well known for his gardening skills.
But even Livingston has been surprised by this year’s orca-like okra crop.
That’s because he’s harvested enough of the plant to feed a killer whale and is still picking every other day.

Amendment would allow assistance in property tax collection

Editor’s Note: Louisiana voters will be asked to decide on 14 proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution on the Nov. 4 ballot. The Leader will be running a series of articles provided by the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana to better inform voters about the issues that will be on the ballot.
Voters will be asked to vote for a proposal to change the sales of property with delinquent taxes.

Holtz pleased with defensive progress

Especially impressive in Saturday’s 27-20 home win over Texas-San Antonio was the progress shown by Tech’s defense.

Tech’s Pinson, Grambling’s Williams earn Player of Week honors

Louisiana Tech’s Terrell Pinson (pictured above left) and Grambling State’s Johnathan Williams (No. 17 pictured above right) both earned Louisiana Sports Writers Association Players of the Week honors on Monday. Williams was named LSWA Offensive Player of the Week after completing 19 of 27 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 66 yards and two touchdowns in GSU’s 63-39 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday.

Tech fourth after first two rounds of Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

Louisiana Tech junior Victor Lange fired 3-under-par 141 over the first two rounds at the Tech-hosted Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club on Monday. The Bulldogs enter Tuesday’s final round in fourth place as a team while Lange is tied for fifth in the individual standings.
Despite a slow start early in the first of two rounds Monday, the Bulldogs finished the day at an even-par 576 (291-285—576) and in fourth place, four strokes ahead of Southern Miss.

FBC Ruston to host family fall festival

Watch for the lights, cameras and action at First Baptist Church’s back parking lot, located at 300 S. Trenton St., from 5:30-7 p.m. Oct. 29.
Local and area residents, along with their children, are invited to participate in family-friendly activities, including games, festive treats, music, sponsored booths, animated balloons, the locally-famous Titanic inflatable slide, door prizes, fire truck viewing, surprises galore, free popcorn and hotdogs and the “parade of the miniature horses” — all ingredients for an autumn Octoberfest for area families.

Tech adds one more to HOF

Not only did Louisiana Tech University fans get to celebrate a 27-20 win over the University of Texas-San Antonio on Saturday at Joe Aillet Stadium, they also celebrated the homecoming of one of their own Hall of Famers.
Former Louisiana Tech offensive tackle Willie Roaf will be enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame 2014 Induction Class in December and was honored at midfield by Tech athletics director Tommy McClelland during halftime of Saturday’s game.
