in
Bergeron, Nancy 2014.jpg

District Attorney John Belton borrowed a page out of several recent U.S. presidents’ playbooks when he gave his remarks following his swearing-in ceremony Jan. 9.
After he thanked those gathered for their support and pledged to do his best at his new job, Belton began singling out individuals whom he said mentored him, made him think as he pondered his race for 3rd Judicial District D.A. and looked beyond the color of his skin.

Ruston High School held its annual football banquet Monday night to celebrate its heroes from the 2014 gridiron season.

But there was also a somber tone to the night as the Bearcats paid tribute to and mourned the loss of one of their own.

Air Force Academy Cadet 4th Class John “Jack” Lindsey, an 18-year-old 2014 Ruston High School graduate, died Saturday while skiing at Keystone Resort in Summit County, Colorado, the academy said in a Monday release. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the cause of death was ruled an accident.

When Tainter gates installed on the Lake D’Arbonne Spillway were first put into play last spring, the agencies responsible for its operation said learning when to open and close the gates would be a work in progress.
As the control structure was opened earlier this month for just the second time since the project was completed in 2013, the two agencies responsible for its operation were using revised benchmarks to open the gates to take rising water from the lake and dump it into Bayou D’Arbonne and ultimately into the Ouachita River.

Fobbs deserving of SBN award

The 2014 football season was simply breathtaking for the Grambling State University Tigers and first-year head coach Broderick Fobbs.
After winning one game in each of the previous two seasons, the Tigers finished this season at 7-5, being stopped inches short of earning a berth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game as Southern made a goal-line stand on the game’s final play to win this year’s Bayou Classic.
