Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures Sunday, but that didn’t prevent Grambling State University from falling 84-53 against the University of Washington Sunday afternoon at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. Yosha Watson (with ball) led Grambling (3-6) with 14 points while Monisha Neal chipped in with 11 and Mariah Gilliam added 10. The Lady Tigers next play at Kansas State on Saturday.

Coming off its best performance of the season, the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters will host Nicholls State at 6:30 p.m. today in the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech (3-4) played toe-to-toe with 22nd ranked Mississippi State Thursday night before falling 81-77 as head coach Tyler Summitt and Co. gave the undefeated Bulldogs their toughest test of the season.
The Lady Techsters will try to build on the positives from the four-point loss when they welcome head coach Dobee Plaisance and the Colonels (3-3) to Ruston. It will be only the second home game of the season for Tech.

Leadership changes in store for Ruston

The defeat of the lone city incumbent in Saturday’s runoff election means three of Ruston’s five aldermen will be first-time officeholders.
That, coupled with Ronny Walker’s election in November as Ruston’s first new mayor in 16 years, will likely lead to a reassessment of municipal priorities and their effectiveness, sociologist and political consultant Gary Stokley said.
“It opens up every aspect of Ruston now,” he said.

Scam targets area residents

in

A new scam has been targeting area residents, Lincoln Parish Mike Stone said.
Stone said residents have reportedly received calls from someone impersonating a Lincoln Parish deputy.
“The person calls to say that you have missed a grand jury summons,” Stone said. “The person then proceeds to inform you there is a warrant for your arrest and unless a fee is paid then you will be arrested.”
Stone said the scammer has asked residents to purchase a money order for approximately $990.

Dallas bowl perfect spot for Bulldogs

in
Davis, OK.jpg

Cleaning off the notepad with some leftover notes, quotes and observations from the sports world:
• For Tech Nation, this couldn’t have worked out any better. The Bulldogs — Conference USA West Division champs and league runner-up — have a postseason trip that will require only a four-hour drive for their fans.
Sure, maybe a trek to Boca Roton, Florida, or the Bahamas would’ve been more intriguing, but the Heart of Dallas is ideal for a larger support group for the ’Dogs.

Fobbs was recently named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in his first year at the helm of the Tigers after guiding GSU from a last place finish (1-10) record a year ago to competing for a division title in his first season at the helm.
