There is the popular adage, “Showing up is half the battle,” or the similar, “90 percent of success is showing up.”
First Assistant District Attorney Andy Shealy said about 90 percent of the criminals he sees in and out of the parish courts every week are there because they stopped showing up.

Jessica Hughes, who has been a member for several years, joined the Junior Auxiliary of Ruston with a desire to be more involved in the community, but the experience has been more than she could ever have imagined.

To park or not to park

Parking. It’s a problem in downtown Ruston. Parking. It’s not a problem in downtown Ruston.
For years, city officials and central business district merchants have been grappling with how to make downtown Ruston both customer friendly and merchant friendly. The discussion always circles back to parking.

Father impacts community

in
Bleich, Joe C.jpg

Today’s thoughts are personal. In another sense, they are not personal because today’s subject, my father, Dr. L.C. “LaMoyne” Bleich, as objectively as I can say it, had quite an impact in this community. DeGrie, Elizabeth 2014.jpg

The other day, I ran into my favorite drug store for a quick purchase. On my way out, the aisle I incidentally chose to use to walk toward the checkout counter turned out to be the seasonal aisle. Already, it was half-filled with a selection of marked down school supplies.

Reactions for when portfolio engines flame out

in
Moore, Byron.jpg

Question: I got frightened during the last financial crisis a few years ago. I pulled my money out last spring and sat on the side lines for a very long time. I got back in, but I’m not sure when the markets might go back down. And I don’t want to make the mistake of getting out at the wrong time again. How do I prevent it?
Answer: You can always stay out of the financial markets altogether and simply be a saver, rather than an investor.
Despite Fed actions to encourage money into the market, saving is still a popular choice for some, rather than enduring more stock market drama.

Variables lead to the right answer for retirement

in
Fallin, Randy 2014.jpg

If you think back to your math classes in high school or college, you may remember that many of the problems involved the use of variables.
Changing these variables around in any fashion would change the outcome of the problem.

That’s why it’s so important you be aware of the key variables involved in your retirement income planning.

No. 1 pre-war song was ‘I didn’t raise my boy to be a soldier’
larkinbattlealbum1915int C.jpg

August marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I. Triggered by the assassination in Sarajevo, Serbia, of Austrian Archduke Ferdinand, the War was a tragedy of incompetence, arrogance and miscalculation resulting in carnage with few parallels in history. The vindictiveness of the treaty that ended it then all but guaranteed World War II.
