$16K reward offered in Union disappearance

A $16,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can lead authorities to the exact location of Amanda McKinnie McPherson, a Union Parish native missing since Nov. 4.
McPherson’s mother, Sharon McKinnie of Linville, said community businesses contributed the money for the reward. That’s in addition to a $1,500 reward offered by Crime Stoppers of Union Parish.

RPD seeks burglars who tunneled through walls

Burglars responsible for breaking through the walls of a local shopping center on the 900 block of South Trenton Street are still at large.
Ruston Police Department Deputy Chief Clint Williams said a call was received at 4 a.m. Tuesday when an alarm was sounded at a local check cashing business.

Tech prepares for First Pitch Dinner

Louisiana Tech Baseball will kick off the 2015 season with the inaugural First Pitch Dinner, which has been scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant.
The event will be headlined by Hall of Fame coach Keith Madison, who ended his career in 2003 as the winningest coach in the history of Kentucky baseball with 737 victories in 25 years. Head coach Greg Goff will reunite with his former colleague after he served on Madison’s staff as the Wildcats’ pitching coach from 1999-2003.

Tech season tickets on sale now

Louisiana Tech Baseball fans can now purchase season tickets for the upcoming 2015 home schedule, which is set to begin on Feb. 20 against UAPB and features a total of 29 home contests in Greg Goff’s first year as head coach.
Tech is scheduled to play a total of 55 games in 2015, including 14 three-game series, eight of which will be played at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park, now in its 45th year of service. The Bulldogs will also host five midweek games over the course of the campaign, including three against in-state opponents ULM, Grambling and Northwestern State.

GRAMBLING — The Kittens climbed to 8-9 on the season as Grambling Laboratory High School took a big home win over Calvary Baptist Tuesday evening.
Tylan Dean led the way for Grambling with 15 points along wtih five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Shawntaveon Jenkins added a double-double for the Kittens with 10 points and 10 boards along with a steal and a blocked shot while Xavier Davis added nine points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists.

All right, that’s it. No more. I’m fed up clear to the top of my hunter’s orange toboggan hat. The very idea that north Louisiana culture is apparently being assessed nationwide — and maybe even worldwide — by the likes of so-called reality shows including “My Big Redneck Family,” “Girls Gone Bayou,” “Redneck Island” and, of course, “Duck Dynasty,” irks me.

It’s an unfortunate sign of success for a mid-major football bowl subdivision (FBS)school like Louisiana Tech University.
But that doesn’t make it any easier to swallow.
For a second straight year the Bulldogs’ football team is searching for a new defensive coordinator following Monday’s announcement that Manny Diaz has accepted to take on the same role for Mississippi State University.
