in

Kenyon McNeail was a long-range legend during his Louisiana Tech University basketball career.
Now, he’s extended his talent for sinking 3-point shots from another area code to the international scene.
The former Bulldogs’ star is among the leading players in Europe.
No, correct that previous paragraph. He is, for sure, already one of its best players after less than a full season.

If you’ve read my columns or heard my radio programs for a while, you’re going to read or hear something about songbirds. My interest in identifying these little fluttery, colorful creatures was handed down to me by my mom. She loved the birds and taught her offspring all about them and how to identify them.

Waiting, watching, believing

in
Brewton, Cathy 12-13.jpg

I keep thinking about waiting — preparation — and what it means to wait with expectation in this Advent season ... to prepare room in our hearts for the coming of the Christ child as Christians.
I keep wondering about how many people will actually sit and be still in this somewhat hurried season that our culture has created. I wonder how many of us will actually spend less and focus more on the meaning of this holy season — waiting and watching in a sense of readiness and preparation for something holy to begin and be birthed within us?

Christmas parties and church shopping

in
Irby, Marna.jpg

On this Sunday afternoon, I’m having a special date with my church granddaughter, Lori James. The reason it is so special is because she has never been to a ballet. I’m amazed since she has traveled the world with her husband, Bobby, and seen sights I will never see. Not long ago she was in Paris and brought me a small replica of the Eifel Tower.
Anyway, I’m excited to be the first one to see “The Nutcracker Suite” at the Eiseman Center with her. We have wonderful seats for the afternoon performance. I’ll go home with her from church and have lunch, then on to the show.
