Agencies respond to fatality

A single vehicular accident resulted in a fatality and one person being transported via Pafford Air One at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Grambling Fire Department Chief David Wells reported the accident occurred at the corner of Igoe Inn Road and Louisiana Highway 150/Martin Luther King Drive.
Grambling Police Chief Tommy Clark said the driver lost control of the 2003 Chevy SUV and left the roadway.

Skains still steamed over DCS funding

Downsville Charter School Board President Reggie Skains went to the Dec. 8 meeting of the Union Parish School Board looking for some answers and maybe an olive branch.
He got neither. What he did take away from the meeting is the strong opinion that the flap between DCS and the school board may well wind up in court.
“I don’t want to go there, but the ball is in their court,” Skains said.

Tigers to tangle with Huskies

Grambling State University will bring a record of 2-6 into a 9 p.m. contest today as the Tigers take on the University of Washington in Seattle. The Huskies stand at 8-0 on the season. Senior G/F A’Torri Shine is the only Tiger averaging double figures in scoring with 12.4 points per game while junior forward Mark Gray (No. 24 pictured above) is adding 9.1 ppg.

Tech OL Bell invited to play in All-Star game

LOS ANGELES — Louisiana Tech senior offensive lineman Mitchell Bell has accepted an invitation to play in the 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Bell, a 6-3, 354-pound Houston native, anchored the Louisiana Tech offensive line, earning All-Conference USA First Team honors this season. Bell grabbed a starting position in 2013 after transferring from Navarro JC and never let it go.
The Bulldogs had one of the most improved scoring offenses in the country, ranking No. 19 in the country and second in C-USA in fewest sacks allowed.

Transportation is key to expansion

Don’t look now, but election season is just around the proverbial corner. Yep, the books have just closed on the 2014 runoffs, but 2015 portends to be politically active, too.
That’s the year we elect parish police jurors, sheriff, clerk of court, assessor, state legislators, the regional member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary education, governor, statewide elected officials and a handful of other folks.

Hood exhibits at Parish Press

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council announces the premiere photography exhibit of Shawn W. Hood at Parish Press.
Hood has taught at Louisiana Tech University for 25 years, and carried a camera in her hands for even longer, as she has continued to pursue natural and portrait photography.
“With different photographic collections, I am continuously documenting the experiences that provoke me to think, feel and love,” she said.

Club News: Long Leaf Pine Chapter DAR

Long Leaf Pine Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution met at 1 p.m. DEC. 2 at Trinity United Methodist Church with 12 members present.
Regent Melissa Wiygul opened the meeting with prayer and conducted chapter business.
Secretary Kara Giddings read the November minutes and they were approved.
Treasurer Anne Hough gave the treasurer’s report.
National Defense chairman Sue Parker reminded members to vote in the upcoming election.

Miller speaks at Lions Club

The Rev. B.K. Miller was a recent guest speaker at the noon meeting of the Ruston Lions Club. Miller has recently published a book containing 300 of his favorite jokes. He shared some of the stories with the group.
