FLW slates college fishing event next weekend

Tech team to join around 50 others for tournament on Lake Dardanelle

FLW College Fishing is headed to Arkansas’ Lake Dardanelle on Saturday for the final regular-season stop in the Southern Conference.
Louisiana Tech’s team of Matthew Loetscher, of Many, and Caleb Boudreaux, of Doyline, will join as many as 50 other college teams will be competing for a top award of $2,000 and a berth in the Southern Conference Invitational tournament.

Alice in Wonderland

As part of the Summer Reading Program, the Lincoln Parish Library hosted a production of Alice In Wonderland. Area children were able to attend and participate in this event. Based on the book by Lewis Carroll, the story was brought to life by the Hampstead Stage Company.

McCain, Bolom to assist bar association

During the recent Library Board of Control meeting, Library Director Vivian McCain announced news that will benefit patrons.
“We will be working with the Louisiana Bar Association along with some other public libraries and putting some things together, such as legal reference materials,” McCain said.
McCain along with Jeremy Bolom, head of public services for the library, will be the two assisting on this project, that McCain said is meant to help residents.

First Assistant District Attorney Andy Shealy said about 90 percent of the criminals he sees in and out of the parish courts every week are there because they stopped showing up.

Jessica Hughes, who has been a member for several years, joined the Junior Auxiliary of Ruston with a desire to be more involved in the community, but the experience has been more than she could ever have imagined.
“At one of our Dinner and a Movie events, there was this sweet little young girl in a wheelchair with no legs,” Hughes said.

Father impacts community

Today’s thoughts are personal. In another sense, they are not personal because today’s subject, my father, Dr. L.C. “LaMoyne” Bleich, as objectively as I can say it, had quite an impact in this community. The reason I share these comments now is that this week was the 100th anniversary of his birth. Dad died in August 1985.

The other day, I ran into my favorite drug store for a quick purchase. On my way out, the aisle I incidentally chose to use to walk toward the checkout counter turned out to be the seasonal aisle. Already, it was half-filled with a selection of marked down school supplies.
