Barry Sanders, Tech spirit put big kick in Roaf event

One of pro football’s all-time greatest running backs showed up with long-time friend and ex-Bulldogs’ great William Roaf at the CHAMPS celebration reception that kicked off the latter’s annual fund-raising golf tournament that will be held at the Olde Oakes course here today.
“He’s still so quick that he got in here and hardly anybody noticed,” quipped one Tech fan whose mouth went wide-open when the Pro Football Hall of Famer walked into a large meeting room just before 9 p.m.

Idea House still making the news

Even though homeowner Davison has replaced some of the furniture which was sold during the open house, much of the décor remains the same as it was during the months when thousands of visitors from across the country came to see the best in housing ideas for that year.
Even though the run for the official showing of the house is long since over, people may still seek out a glimpse of the address when in the area and the project continues to bring credit to the Choudrant development and the entire community.

Getting out the red pencil

•Do not overdo the introduction. In describing the geographic distribution of her students and their work I originally used the word “global” and in the end I decided on “wide reach.” In the context of the piece, the meaning conveyed was the same. In the rereading, the word “global” seemed just a bit bombastic. “Global” seems more appropriate when describing environmental conditions, political conflicts and economic trends. “Wide reach” is a better fit.

Malone gives $350k to Tech

The Mailman delivered on both accounts.
“Too many times, you go to a press conference and you leave thinking, ‘Now that was pretty boring and not much to it, so I wanted to lighten things up and yet let the folks know that the things we want to do to help the school should be taken seriously,” Malone told The Ruston Daily Leader early this morning. “Hopefully, I accomplished that yesterday.
“From what I’ve heard already, I think everybody enjoyed it and yet also realized how important were the things that we discussed.”
