Moms need to reclaim authority

One of the greatest ironies of our time: Today’s women have inherited from their mothers the freedom to claim authority in the military, corporations, churches, the professions, politics and higher education, but have been persuaded, largely by their own gender, to all but completely abdicate their authority over their children.

School of Art Galleries at Tech to host exhibitions

Louisiana Tech will feature works from two renowned artists in the School of Art Galleries today and continuing until Oct. 16.
The newly renamed F. Elizabeth Bathea Gallery will feature artist Jungeun Lee, and the Mary Wilfred Moffett Gallery will display works by Brad Wreyford. Lee will speak at 5 p.m. today followed by a reception at 6 p.m., and Wreyford will speak at 5 p.m. Oct. 16. Both talks will take place in the School of Art.

Patton gets into groove

After slow start, ‘The General’ produces against Rice

Uh oh.
Bad news might be brewing for Louisiana Tech University opponents.
Quinton Patton may be starting to get into his All-American groove.
At least it sure appears that way after “The General” helped the Bulldogs pile up more huge offensive numbers in a 56-37 victory over Rice University at Joe Aillet Stadium on Saturday night.

A tale of two football seasons’ beginning

It has been a very pleasing, yet surprisingly tough beginning of the football season for fans of both the Louisiana Tech University Football team and the New Orleans’ Saints.
I was always better at hearing the bad news first, so I will go ahead and start with the way Louisiana’s professional team has performed in the two-week season so far.

Cedar Creek remains No. 6 in state rankings

The Top 10 showdown is now officially on the weekend calendar for Lincoln Parish high school football fans.
Cedar Creek (3-0) and Haynesville (2-1), who will collide at the Cougars’ stadium on Friday night at 7 p.m., are ranked for the third consecutive week among the Top 10 squads in Class 1A by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Cameron named for WAC award

Louisiana Tech University quarterback Colby Cameron has been named as the Offensive Player of the Week for the Western Athletic Conference after helping guide the Bulldogs to a 56-37 win over Rice at Joe Aillet Stadium this past weekend.
Cameron, a senior from Newbury Park, Calif., completed 19-of-24 passes for 276 yards and tied a career-high with four touchdown passes in the home opener for the Bulldogs.

Joe Glyn Edmiston

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Glyn Edmiston, age 79, of Choudrant, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Dwayne Monk and Rev. Rolly Walker. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church cemetery in Clay, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mr. Edmiston was born April 26, 1933 and passed away September 16, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Purvis and Majorie Edmiston; sister: Betty Smith; brothers: Wayne Edmiston and Donnie Edmiston.
