Techsters tops over Grambling

After spouting off 16 straight points in the third set, the Louisiana Tech volleyball team stormed past Grambling State in straight sets to earn its first win of the 2012 campaign 25-13, 25-10, 25-6 in front of an energetic crowd in the Thomas Assembly Center Wednesday night.
The victory marks the first for the Lady Techsters under first-year head coach Adriano de Souza and was Tech’s home opener after starting the season with six straight road matches in consecutive weekend tournaments.

Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday to roll out this weekend

Hunters and campers will pay no sales tax on firearms, ammunition and hunting supplies during the Louisiana Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday Friday through Sunday. During these three days, eligible purchases are exempt from the 4 percent state sales tax and all local sales taxes.
The exemption applies to a wide range of supplies, including:
• Shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers or other handguns;
• Ammunition intended to be fired from a gun or firearm;
• Accessories designed to be used for hunting;

LPSO offers hunting classes

The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office is offering a free hunter education course.
The course is required of anyone born after Sept. 1, 1969, to be able to purchase a license to hunt in Louisiana. The course will include information about being a responsible and ethical hunter, knowing firearms and equipment, wildlife and conservation management, as well as basic shooting and safe hunting skills. On the final day of class, participants go out to the Lincoln Parish Law Enforcement Training Center in Simsboro to practice safe shooting skills.

Many purchases eligible for sales tax exemption

According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, many items are eligible for a sales tax exemption during the Louisiana Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday weekend.
• Firearms eligible for the sales tax exemption include shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers or other handguns, which may be legally sold or purchased in Louisiana.
• Ammunition intended to be fired from a gun or firearm is eligible for the sales tax exemption.

Chessie Mae Jones Moore

Chessie Mae Jones Moore, 92 years of age, died peacefully on Tuesday evening September 4, 2012 at the Princeton Place Nursing Home of Ruston. Visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home on Friday evening from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00PM at Temple Baptist Church of Ruston with Pastor Dr. Rick Byargeon and Associate Pastor Dale Oden officiating. Interment will follow at Pines Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Memorial music will be provided by piano accompaniest Margie Hearn and soloist Jodie Williams.

The funeral service for Ms. Gail Evans, 52, of Ruston, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday September 7, 2012 at First Assembly of God at North Hodge. Pastor Gene Cumpton will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Kentucky.
