Chris Millage (1), who has been switched from quarterback to slotback in Ruston High School’s new offensive look, was among the Bearcats starting off preseason workouts on Monday. The 2011 Class 5A Louisiana High School Athletic Association state quarterfinalists were among teams kicking off two-a-day fall camp drills in preparation for the upcoming season.

Morgan No. 39 in discus

Louisiana Tech University alumnus Jason Morgan finished No. 39 in the men’s discus competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London Monday.
Morgan threw 188-6 as he finished No. 19 in Group A and No. 39 overall in the competition for Jamaica.
Although this was Morgan’s first appearance in Olympic competition, he is no stranger to the international circuit. He has competed in several World Championship meets across the globe.

Roaf boosts parish total in pro Hall

Lincoln Parish’s membership in the Pro Football Hall of Fame keeps growing.
Willie Roaf made it seven and counting for our area this past weekend when the former Louisiana Tech University star was one of six inductees honored in ceremonies at Canton, Ohio.
He is the third ever former Bulldog player to earn the sport’s top honor, following in the legendary footsteps of quarterback Terry Bradshaw and defensive lineman Fred Dean.

Fall is almost here. Hard to believe but it’s true.
Many festivals abound in the fall season, and festivals are great places to make a few extra dollars using the bounty from your garden. Consider the ideas below to make some extra cash.
Decorating the door, porch and yard have become a tradition for Halloween. Take the remaining corn stalks from your garden and pair them with hay bales and pumpkins for a classic Halloween look. If you thought ahead and planted Indian corn, use that in your wreath decoration for the front or back door. Use what you have from the garden and be creative.

One of my dear friends has a degree in Slavery Studies. Her goal in life is to be an abolitionist.
To most of us, that sounds crazy. Why, in this day an age, would someone study that?
The simple answer is that not everyone in the world has the same experiences we do. There are slaves throughout the world, and some even end up in our country still trapped in slavery.
