Go ahead, call Jason Morgan a “momma’s boy.”
That’s just fine with him.
Because if there is anyone who has served as a constant beacon of inspiration in the life of Jason Morgan, it is his late mother.
She is the primary reason that he is at the world’s greatest sporting event, just two days away from competing in the discus for his native country of Jamaica at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

RHS-Minden: Rivalry renewed at ‘Jam’

Thanks to the “Jam at the Joe,” the I-20 football rivalry between Ruston and Minden is continuing.
“One of the main reasons why we got into this (the jamboree) was the chance to play Ruston and rekindle the rivalry with us,” said Tide Head Coach Randy Peters on Wednesday, when a ‘Jam at the Joe’ press conference was held at the Jimmy ‘Chick’ Childress field house on the RHS campus. “We hope to keep it going for many years.”

Dykes, Bulldogs ready to lift off fall camp drills

So much for any “down time” during the summer.
It’s “liftoff” time for Louisiana Tech University’s football team, which began reporting for preseason workouts today before going through on-the-field drills Friday at 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs will head into fall camp with one of the most anticipated seasons in the program’s history. There are consensus No. 1 rankings in various polls for the Western Athletic Conference, several Top 50 national ratings, 16 starters returning from last year’s league champs and five different players on national “Watch Lists.”

Grambling starts preseason work

GRAMBLING — Can a late season surge in 2011 carry over into another championship performance for Grambling State University’s football team?
The Tigers began implementing such an approach today when preseason workouts kicked off for the defending title holders in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Grambling returns four all-conference players, three team statistical pacesetters and 15 starters from a 2011 squad that won its last seven games after falling in four of the first five.

Event to help landowners, entrepreneurs

All farmers, landowners, entrepreneurs and community leaders wanting to enhance their properties and expand their businesses are encouraged to attend The Big Event on Saturday at Grambling State University.
GSU College of Business Dean Carl N. Wright says, “It was Dr. Pogue who requested to organize an event to provide underserved landowners with information that may help them to better manage their land.”

Arbra Butler

He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Lou Winzer Butler; (4) Brothers - Readus V., Alfonzo, Marvin Gene, Robert Felton and (1) sister Robie Lee Butler.

Funeral Services and Life Celebration for Emily Earline Robken, age 89, of Ruston formerly of Maumelle, AR. will be 2:00pm, Friday, August 3, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Maumelle, AR, officiating the service will be Brother Matt Sculley of Trinity Church, Hot Springs, AR. Burial will immediately follow at Riverwood Memorial Gardens in Maumelle, AR. Under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Search off, Tech XX reported dead

The search for Louisiana Tech University’s mascot is off, as it has been discovered that Tech XX passed away.
According to a news release from the university, Tech officials learned of the passing of Tech XX through communication with Dr. Patrick Sexton, with whom Tech XX lived.
