Goree to Grambling

All-District 2-5A first baseman Eric Goree of Ruston High School’s 2012 league champions has signed with Grambling State University. He played a key role in the Bearcats’ drive to a second consecutive district title and Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoff berth by batting .379, driving in 31 runs, registering 12 extra base hits (three home runs, seven doubles, two triples) and stealing four bases during the regular season. He is currently playing for the Louisiana Diamond Dawgs’ summer team.

Olympians, Roaf give Tech boost

This has been an Olympian-size summer for Louisiana Tech University’s athletics program.
The best public relations’ guru this side of Madison Avenue couldn’t have concocted a better promotional gig for Tech Nation.
There are not many schools in the country who, within less than a month’s time later this summer, will have:
• An inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
• Three representatives in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
But that’s exactly what will be occurring in upcoming weeks.

’Dogs No. 1 in recruiting

Louisiana Tech University has more than just one No. 1 preseason ranking going into the 2012 campaign.
Granted, the Bulldogs are the consensus pick to win a second straight Western Athletic Conference championship.
But they’re also at the top of the recruiting charts, too.
Tech’s group of signees back in February ranks No. 1 among all programs in the Western Athletic Conference, based on compilations made with various publications, websites and media organizations in recent months.

Albert Lewis excelled in secondary

GRAMBLING — Albert Lewis, a two-time all-conference cornerback at Grambling who later recorded 42 interceptions over a sterling 225-game pro career, will be inducted into the Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame this month.
The four-time Pro Bowler joins 11 other figures from Grambling State University’s athletic lore — including NBA first-round selection Aaron James, and former baseball coach and athletic administrator Wilbert Ellis — as part of the fourth-annual Legends class.
