This week, Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game is scheduled to be played in Kansas City. Whether you’re rooting for the American or National League, you’ll no doubt admire the ability and athleticism exhibited by these tremendous ballplayers.

Budget planning for far off retirement difficult

Question: I want to plan for my retirement but I know that my expenses now are going to change a lot when I retire. Do people usually spend more or less in retirement? How can I plan a budget for my retirement years so far away?
Answer: Have you ever been to Buzzard Billy’s Flying Carp Café?
Me neither. But I’d love to go some day, just for the name.
The restaurant is located at 100 Court Avenue. If you’re headed west on Grand, take a left on Third.
And if you’re headed east on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, you’ll want to hang a left on Second street. Can’t miss it.

Hope Center wins $25K grant

After three weeks and more than 1.2 million votes, State Farm® is pleased to announce Ruston’s Hope Center for Autism will receive a $25,000 grant to provide more help to those families working with autism.
The local nonprofit was one of 3,000 cause submissions State Farm received through Cause An Effect, a population-sourced philanthropic initiative that relies on nonprofit organizations to create solutions to community issues identified by Facebook users.

Olympic pride

Marching for Team USA

Crawford on ‘cutting edge’

Executive director helps make Fishers of Men circuit big success

There is a chapter of a unique bass fishing tournament trail with headquarters in Ruston, a circuit that targets both bass and bass fishermen. The North-Central Louisiana chapter of the Fishers of Men circuit is overseen by insurance executive, Brent Crawford, and along with participants trying their hand at catching bass, Crawford’s focus comes straight out of the Bible.
Matthew 4:19 nails it down….”And He saith unto them, Follow me and I’ll make you Fishers of Men.”

Ex-Bearcat Langston is All-Star

VICTORIA, Texas — Nicholls State University baseball player Kelby Langston, of Ruston has been named to the Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game next week, earning the cut for the South squad representing his team the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
The University of Houston-Victoria, home of the Victoria Generals, will be the host site for this year’s game and will be broadcasted live online through the TCL’s website, then nationally on the Fox College Sports networks the following week.

RPAR to sponsor ‘Home Run Derby’

The third annual “Home Run Derby” hosted by the Ruston Parks and Recreation Department will be held July 17 at 6:30 p.m.
Each participant will receive unlimited swings until they have 10 outs.
Foul balls and swinging strikes will count towards an out. Softballs will be provided by RPAR and only those balls may be hit during the competition.
