RPAR readies for fall

Tie on the cleats and strap on the shin guards.
It’s time again for fall soccer for ages 3-9, sponsored by the Ruston Parks and Recreation Department.
Line up at the center circle as RPAR kicks off another season of youth league soccer for both boys and girls.

Ruston native finds catfish success

Thanks to some lessons learned decades ago by a Lincoln Parish youngster from his mentor, his family is enjoying lip-smacking fried catfish today.
Keith Johnson watched and listened attentively as Lake D’Arbonne fishing legend, I. B. Emmons, demonstrated and taught the proper way to prepare fishing lines to attract some of D’Arbonne’s big flathead (Opelousas) catfish.

Cox network begins coverage of state Hall event

NATCHITOCHES – Cox Sports Television, in association with Louisiana Sports Writers Association productions, has begin its coverage of the 2012 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremonies . The first telecast was held earlier this week and featured highlights from the induction ceremony held last month at the Natchitoches Events Center.
Eight more of the state’s top sports stars were inducted at this year’s ceremony, presented by Chesapeake Energy. They included football players Roger Carr, Warrick Dunn, Deuce McAllister and Terry Robiskie; basketball legend Aaron James; football coach Pete Richardson, college baseball superstar Dr. Eddy Furniss and jockey Mark Guidry.

Donation for Boys and Girls Club

Youngsters from the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Louisiana gather with former New Orleans Saints’ star Joe Horn (standing, third from left) and other representatives who helped announced a donation of $2,500 to the Ruston-based organization. With proceeds from his “Bayou 87 BBQ Sauce,” Horn made his first donation to a Boys and Girls Club located in North Louisiana.
