Remembering D-Day, history

Today is D-Day. Sixty-eight years ago at 3:30 a.m. Louisiana time, the first wave of allied infantry and armored troops crossed the choppy English Channel under an overcast sky.
They waded ashore on a 50-mile stretch of the Normandy coast for beaches code named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword. There were 156,000 allied troops from the United States, England, Canada, Free France and Norway; almost 7,000 ships and landing craft; 54,000 vehicles and 11,590 planes.

Chicken bill could be costly

Individual states continue to be the battleground of radical environmental rights groups against family farms. 
However, new legislation on the federal level being pushed by the Humane Society of the United States and the United Egg Producers would replace science-based animal-care practices with a strict government mandate, according to Kelli Ludlum, a livestock policy specialist with the American Farm Bureau Federation.

THE VILLAGE of Simsboro in Lincoln Parish is seeking HPG funds from U.S.D.A./RHS for rural community housing preservation program. The funds will be used for the repair and rehabilitation of single- family houses of low and very low income residents of Simsboro rural area of Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. Milton Lopez (“Pez” or “Hector”) May, was born December 15, 1946, in Ruston, LA to the late Mattie Lee Brewster May and Philip May Jr. He was the first born of four boys to Mattie and Philip. Milton was also the first to conclude this earthly journey.
