Jackson Parish man killed in ATV crash

One man is dead after a single vehicle crash in Jackson Parish on Saturday.
Louisiana State Police Troop F troopers responded to a single vehicle crash at 7:50 p.m. Saturday in Jackson Parish.
The investigation revealed that an ATV was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 542 when the driver attempted to turn left onto Cynthia Street. The driver lost control of the ATV, traveled into a ditch and struck a tree. The driver was ejected upon impact.

RPAR to participate in WLSL

On Thursday, thousands of kids and adults at aquatics facilities around the globe will unite to set a new global record for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL). Ruston Parks and Recreation is an official Host Location for the 2012 WLSL record-setting event, taking place at 1 p.m. in the Municipal Pool on Georgia Avenue.

Parish tandem set to increase Hall numbers

Roger Carr and Aaron James will help boost some impressive numbers for Lincoln Parish and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches later this month.
When former Louisiana Tech University great Carr and ex-Grambling State University basketball standout are enshrined during ceremonies on June 23 at the Natchitoches Events Center, it will elevate the shrine’s overall membership total to 292 since the first event was held in 1959.
And nearly 50 representatives in the Hall have direct links to Lincoln Parish.

RVing? Didn’t know it was a verb, right? Neither did I, until recently.
During one of my assignments, I met a lovely couple, who in their maturing years, took up RV travel. Although they never referred to it as RVing, after a quick Google search, I realized the actual act of traveling by recreational vehicle encompasses a complete subculture.
For those who know nothing on the topic — an individual like myself — there is an extensive collection of “how to” guides on getting started all over the Internet.

Keep learning fresh in summer

Lincoln Parish students have had almost three weeks free of classes, and many will be tempted to assuage boredom with endless television marathons or video games.
However, a summer filled with a complete break from learning could be the worst thing for their education. Opportunities for educational stimulation abound throughout the summer from science camps at Louisiana Tech University to art and drama camps through the North Central Louisiana Arts Council, which allow area children to explore various new concepts and activities.

The Village of Simsboro is applying for a grant under the FY 2012/2013 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant (LCDBG) Public Facilities Program. On May 7, 2012, the Village held a public hearing to discuss the application process and at which time the Village decided to submit a LASTEP Application for Potable Water Improvements. The Village is interested in procuring the services of an administrative consulting firm to prepare the application package and to administer and implement the project if successful in being funded.
