NBA playoffs being featured by close games

The National Basketball Association has honestly surprised many avid watchers. The playoffs have begun and these games have been nail-biters, to say the least. Teams that we thought originally thought were long shots are now emerging as contenders. Locker rooms that were once filled with green rookies and newly transiitioned sophomores are now filled with savvy and knowledgeable players.

White to speak at Oregon event

Louisiana Tech University men’s basketball coach Michael White will be one of the featured speakers at the 2012 Villa 7 Consortium, presented by Virginia Commonwealth University and Nike.
The event takes place today and Thursday at the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Ore., where White will talk about his “First 100 Days” on the job.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to speak at such an esteemed event as Nike’s Villa 7,” said White. “The consortium has been very educational for me, and I look forward to giving back.”

Ex-Lamar assistant Price is introduced as new GSU coach

GRAMBLING — Exactly a week after officially putting out the welcome mat for its new head coach in women’s basketball, Grambling State University did the same this morning for men’s hoops.
Joseph Price, who has served as an assistant coach at Lamar University, was introduced as the new head men’s coach for the Tigers during a press conference held in the foyer of the Fred C. Hobdy
Last week, Patricia Cage-Bibbs was introduced as the new leader of the women’s program.

Youth should enjoy Ruston’s parks

According to a 2007 New England Journal of Medicine, today’s children may be the first generation at risk of having a shorter lifespan than their parents. Sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity have contributed greatly to the numerous health problems plaguing youngsters.
Chronic conditions such as childhood obesity, asthma, attention-deficit disorder and vitamin D deficiency have all increased over the past few decades, according to studies. These conditions may lead to pulmonary, cardiovascular and mental health problems in adulthood.
