Popping tops for charity

Throughout this school year, the children at the Lincoln Parish Early Childhood Center have been collecting can pop tabs as a community service project. The pop tabs were donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities to help defray the costs they incur as they create, find and support programs for children and their families.

May is the month when we celebrate all that we have learned this year. The boys
and girls are all able to write fun and interesting stories. They can add and subtract well, and have learned how numbers to 100 are made of 10s and ones.

Cox-Boniol attends national STEM forum

Lincoln ACHIEVE Coordinator and New Tech @ Ruston Director Cathi Cox-Boniol recently represented the State of Louisiana at the Vital Signs Forum held in Washington, D.C.
Hosted by Change the Equation, the May 3-4 event was designed to explore the condition of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) learning in the United States. Cox-Boniol was joined on the Louisiana team by Allen Childress and Jean May-Brett from the Louisiana Department of Education as well as Annette Oertling from Tulane University. The Louisiana team joined 41 other states and 183 stakeholders from across the country to join Change the Equation in exploring how to improve STEM teaching and learning.

Cedar Cree High’s softball team hit the “trifecta” today.
Not one, not two, but three Lady Cougars are first unit members of the 2012 Class 1A All-State squad announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Outfielder Lilla Jimmerson and utility players Lauren Yepson and Maggie Davidson give Cedar Creek’s co-District 2-1A champions the second most (to Archbishop Hannan’s four) representatives on the top squad of the postseason team that was voted on by a 12-member statewide sportswriting panel.

’Dogs edged by Nevada in WAC tourney

MESA, Ariz. — Redshirt junior Jeb Stefan pitched 8.0 innings and senior first baseman Alex Williams hit his 12th home run of the season in the third inning but Louisiana Tech (24-27) fell to No. 3 Nevada (32-23) on a walk-off home run, 4-3, in game two of the WAC Tournament at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa late Wednesday.
Stefan allowed just five hits and three runs and struck out eight hitters in the no-decision while Williams extended his hitting streak to 16 games with his solo shot in Tech’s ninth one-run loss of the season.

Tech tracksters begin NCAA East preliminaries

All-American Hayes to lead team’s hopes in three-day competition

Louisiana Tech University enters NCAA postseason competition starting today, as its track and field program heads to the NCAA East Preliminary Championships on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
The three-day meet begins today and concludes on Saturday.

Services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, May 26, 2012 at 3:00 PM, visitation at 2:30 before services. Officiating the service will be Dr. Michael Hawley, Bro. Mickey Manning and Bro. James Grafton under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. She will be laid to rest at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery next to her late husband. Mrs.
