Attachment parenting no good

The cover story in last week’s (May 21, 2012) Time magazine is all about “why attachment parenting drives some mothers to extremes — and how Dr. Bill Sears became their guru.” That is the article’s subtitle. All I can say, somewhat hopefully, is “at last.”
Because my next book, due out in the fall, contains a chapter on attachment parenting’s destructive propaganda, I have done considerable research of late on the subject.

Louisiana Tech University will have a good way to tune up for its final Western Athletic Conference baseball series.
How about having to play against one of the Top 25 ranked teams in the nation?
That’s what the Bulldogs (23-23) will be doing tonight when they face the University of Arkansas (35-17) starting at 7:05 p.m. in North Little Rock.

Sports lull approaching after playoffs

The National Basketball Association playoffs have been keeping me entertained over the past few days, and I think I have the tremendous play of the Oklahoma City Thunder to thank for keeping me as enthralled in the hoops actions as I have been.
Usually I do not watch any professional basketball until the playoffs start, so I was right on track this year. I waited until the first round got a little more interesting — I started by watching Game 7 of the Memphis Grizzlies v. the Los Angeles Clippers.

Grambling set for SWAC play

GRAMBLING — A second “season” can sometimes prove more fruitful than the regular campaign.
That’s what Head Coach James Cooper and his Grambling State University baseball squad is hoping for this week.
After finishing in third place for the West Division (13-11) and going 22-24 overall, the Tigers start their quest for a postseason title with an appearance in the annual Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.

Bearcats: spring test Saturday

Ruston High School’s football team brings out the report cards on its spring season Saturday.
That’s when the Bearcats will have their annual spring intrasquad scrimmage, starting at 2 p.m. on its own turf.
Prior to the RHS squad playing, Monroe Richwood High and West Ouachita will scrimmage among themselves beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Robertson inks with NSU

Ruston High School distance runner Maya Robertson (seated, right) recently signed an NCAA national letter-of-intent with Northwestern State University. Witnessing the signing were Robertson’s mother, Sherita Robertson (left), RHS Athletics Director Billy Laird (standing, left) and Lady Bearcats’ coach Jimmy Williams. Robertson competed in the 800-meter run and also was a member of the 1,600-m relay squad.
