Students to attend boys, girls state

Emma Crawford, Chloe Kaczvinsky, Jeff Carroll and Ryan Dwyer will represent Cedar Creek School at Louisiana Girls State and Boys State this summer at Northwestern State University. Sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, Boys State and Girls State are educational programs that focus on providing leadership experiences, character development and citizenship education.

GRAMBLING — If it’s a bare knuckles’ head coach that Grambling State University was seeking for its men’s basketball program, then Joseph Price should be their man.
It wouldn’t have been surprising had the Indiana native, former Notre Dame star and 13-year veteran of the European professional ranks brought along a lunch bucket to a Wednesday morning press conference held at the Fred C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Price has been all about hard work and overcoming challenges ever since his childhood days in Marion, Ind.

Ruston set to host 1A/2A tourney

Semifinal games to begin play Friday at Tech facility

Eight teams are still in the hunt to win a state championship when the Class 2A-1A Louisiana High School Athletic Association/State Farm Insurance state baseball tournament rolls into Ruston Friday and Saturday.
The tournament will be held at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park on the campus of Louisiana Tech University.
Now with the matchups and games times set, the only thing left to do is play ball.

Church soccer league slates tourney action

An inaugural Church Soccer League will have four teams and first-ever tournament that will be held Friday and Saturday at the Ruston Parks and Recreation Department Soccer Complex.
Teams lined up for play in the league include Trinity United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, The Bridge and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
The league features co-ed play for junior high and high school students from the ages of 12-through-18.

Tech’s Goff is All-WAC pick

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Louisiana Tech University junior Melanie Goff was named first team all-Western Athletic Conference on Wednesday, as the league office announced the postseason award winners prior to the start of the conference tournament.
Goff earned her accolades after batting .377 with eight doubles, one triple and one home run during the Lady Techsters’ 20-game conference schedule.
The San Diego native registered 20 hits in 53 at bats during league action while walking nine times and striking out only even times. She registered a .581 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage.

Funeral services for Mrs. India Gray Davis, age 91 of Dubach, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, May 11, 2012 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Dubach. Rev. Connie Smith and Rev. Charles Taylor will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Jeannette Christine Cadwallader Swearingen, age 90, passed away in Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday, May 5, 2012, and joined her husband and other loved ones in Heaven. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the parlor of Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71115. A funeral service praising God for Jean's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Broadmoor Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Tom Harrison and Dr. Scott Tatum officiating. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park on Mansfield Road.

April 2, 2012
The Village of Choudrant Town Council met in regular session. Present were Mayor Bill Sanderson, Alderman Ragan Aswell, Alderman Ricky Maier and guests. Alderman John Croswell was absent. Meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by Mayor Sanderson. Mayor Sanderson gave prayer. Motion to approve the agenda was made by Alderman Aswell, seconded by Alderman Maier. Approved. Motion to approve the minutes of March 5, 2011 was made by Alderman Aswell, seconded by Alderman Maier. Approved.
