Ex-Tech star at Clemens trial

WASHINGTON ­— Former major league baseball player and ex-Louisiana Tech University star David Segui said he recalled a conversation he had with Roger Clemens’ former strength coach, Brian McNamee, back in 2001 in which McNamee said he kept “darts” – i.e., needles – from injecting players with performance-enhancing drugs.

Ruston High’s Cline selected for award as top 4-5A pitcher

Clayton Cline and his Ruston High School teammates are repeating the dividends of being champions in District 4-5A baseball this season.
With a 6-1 record and 2.36 earned run average during regular season play, Clint was named as the Pitcher of the Year for the league by the head coaches.
The righthander also started in nine games, completed four of the contests and allowed only 18 earned runs in 53.67 innings.
Cline had plenty of Bearcat company on the all-district team.

Smith helps lead ULL win

Former Ruston High School star Katie Smith (sliding) had a bunt single and scored a run to help the University of Louisiana-Lafayette defeat Arizona State 6-0 Thursday in the first contest of a three-game NCAA Super Regional softball series being held in Tempe, Ariz. Smith, a senior outfielder, has been a key contributor to the 55-win total and national ranking of the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Warner nominated for Rimington award

Former Ruston High School star Stephen Warner is continuing his “walk-on to success” story.
The senior center at Louisiana Tech University was announced on Thursday as one of 50 players on the 2012 spring “Watch List” for the coveted Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the nation’s top college offensive lineman.

Tech duo: National qualifiers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Louisiana Tech had two long jumpers advance to the NCAA championships in Des Moines and Chelsea Hayes set a school record while advancing to today’s quarterfinals in the 100-meter dash, as action began at the 2012 NCAA East Preliminary Championships at Hodges Stadium Thursday.

Eugene Isaac Harvey

Eugene Isaac Harvey was the fifth child born to George and Blanch Harvey, Berwick, Louisiana. He was educated in the public school system of St. Mary Parish, after which he entered the United States Navy. He later received recognition for his service during World War II in the form of an Honor Medal bestowed upon him by Governor Bobby Jindal. Upon completion of his military service he entered Xavier University and later the University of Indiana where he also began as an athletic trainer. Upon receiving his B.S. degree, he stayed on to complete his Masters.
