Parenting full of challenges

He’s cuddled in his stroller sleeping like a little angel. All of the sudden, the angel lets out a large wail that can be heard throughout the small store. Feeling like an audience member with a cell phone ringing during a key moment in a theatrical show, I smile sheepishly at the woman behind the checkout counter and ask, “Do you have kids?”
She replies, “Three of them. I would say it gets better, but then they’ll get older and learn to talk, and you’ll wish they couldn’t talk again.”

Thoughts on 2012 election

in
Brenda Brooks.jpg

The topic of discussion recently has been the Presidential election. With the most recent news, that of Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum having withdrawn from the 2012 election, reactions are high and obligations and promotions are skewed.
Santorum carried the vote for Louisiana. Therefore, when Santorum issued a statement this week that as a husband to a wife for 21 years and the father of seven children, he must respectfully suspend his campaign, Santorum’s well respected values carried over from the home to the community, and to the office he hoped to hold. Unfortunately, he withdrew from the election and will now take a seat with the rest of us as individuals focusing on big government and its effectiveness to us as individuals. As always, leadership was held as not to derail the vote of Louisiana.

Tech vp sets retirement

The last time someone other than Kenneth Rea occupied the vice president for academic affairs’ office at Louisiana Tech, a gallon of gas cost less than a dollar, the Fox Network was a television “start-up,” and Microsoft Windows 2.0 was the latest and greatest in PC operating systems.
But after 44 years of service to his alma mater, both as a history professor and an academic leader, Rea has decided it’s time to call it a career and will officially retire on Aug. 31.

Tech finishes regular spring session

in

Louisiana Tech University practiced in the program’s final spring session before the 2012 “T-Day” spring game with a two-hour session at Joe Aillet Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
After 13 solid practices, Wednesday’s session was a little frustrating for head coach Sonny Dykes.
“[Wednesday’s practice was] probably not as crisp as we have been,” Dykes said. “I think sometimes the practices before the spring game you have to grind through it. I wasn’t happy with the way we did it today. I thought we were good most places but a lot of guys had subpar practices. We have to do a better job Saturday of competing and finishing some things.”
