White, Evans win Fishers of Men title

Area anglers of the North Central Louisiana Division of the Fishers of Men recently returned to the waters for their second tournament of the five-tournament season.
Launching from Ludwig Brothers Marine on Lake D’Arbonne shortly after daybreak, the field of competitors set out for their favorite holes with hopes of claiming a share of the $2,575 prize to be distributed at the end of the day.
When the weigh-in scales closed just after 3 p.m., Brent White of Monroe and Eric Evans of West Monroe emerged with the victory.

Ducks Unlimited leader earns Dixon award

Mayeux to receive Louisiana Sports Leadership honor in June

NATCHITOCHES — L.J. Mayeux of Marksville, the former national president and Chairman of the Board for Ducks Unlimited, is the 2012 recipient of the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award presented by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

Lady Cougars Dedicate New Batting Cages

The Cedar Creek softball team recently held a special ceremony to dedicate its new batting cages at Lady Cougar Field in Ruston. The dedication was held in conjunction with the Lady Cougars’ annual softball tournament, recently renamed the Caroline Menzina Memorial Tournament. Menzina was a sixth grader at Cedar Creek School when she passed away in 2010. To honor Menzina’s passion for softball, the team has christened the new facility “Caroline’s Cages” in her memory.
