Melton is all-stater

Jerry Melton is two-for-two on All-State basketball teams.
Last year, he was chosen as an honorable mention representative on the Class 4A basketball squad selected by a panel of Louisiana Sports Writers Association members.
Now, Melton is an HM pick on the highest classification (5A) in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

Hedges’ hit leads Tech past G-Men

Second baseman Austin Hedges followed a 3-for-4 performance by hitting the game winning home run for Louisiana Tech as the Bulldogs overcame a four-run deficit and defeated Grambling State (13-9), 10-9, at Wilbert Ellis Park on Wednesday night.
Hedges led off the ninth inning with his second home run of the season to give the Bulldogs a 10-9 lead going into the final frame. The redshirt junior was 2-for-5 at the dish with two RBI as the Bulldogs moved to 13-12 on the season.

Soileau gets win

Garrett Soileau was the pitcher of record for Ruston High in an 18-3 victory over Minden High earlier this week. Soileau raised his record to 3-0 and the Bearcats improved to 14-5 entering today’s 6 p.m. home game against Bastrop High.

Turner keys Simsboro victory

SIMSBORO — An outstanding effort by Skyler Turner hoisted the Simsboro Tigers to a 5-0 win in seven innings over Dubach earlier this week at the Hornets’ diamond.
Turner held the Dubach offense in check and struck out 11 batters.
The Tigers’ pitcher tossed seven innings of shutout ball and allowed only one hit.

RHS hosts ‘Hoss’ Garrett Relays Friday

Seven different schools in North Louisiana will gather at James Stadium on the campus of Ruston High School Friday to participate in the annual L.J. “Hoss” Garrett Relays.
Joining the host Lady Bearcats and Bearcats will be Simsboro, Choudrant, Bastrop High, Shreveport Captain Shreve, Monroe Wossman and Cedar Creek High.
Action begins with field events at 3 p.m. and following by the running events at 5 p.m.

Setting up a backyard play set

Outdoor play is a highlight of childhood. Being able to run, jump and swing outside is an excellent form of exercise and a way for kids to interact with their friends.
One staple of youthful play is spending time on a play set in the backyard. Parents without a play set in the backyard need only look into a neighboring yard with a play set to witness these prime congregation spots for the neighborhood children. And play sets don't just benefit kids.
Parents who want to keep tabs on their children can do so much more easily with a backyard play set, and knowing they are having fun close by alleviates worries.

Services for Mrs. Jerene W. Fuller, age 80, of Ruston will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 30, 2012 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Officiating the service will be Rev. Lynn Hawkins. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Mrs. Fuller was born August 25, 1931 and passed away March, 28, 2012.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sister, and two husbands.
Mrs. Fuller worked as an LPN for over 40 years.
