Abortion issue causes concern

What do six very diverse states have in common? Well for starters they are on track to paving the pathway for other states, which are concerned about abortions.
According to a news article in the Chicago Tribune the governor of Virgina is poised to sign a law forcing women to have an ultrasound before opting to have an abortion.
The controversial legislation requires a woman be offered the chance to view the ultrasound image, and holds that a copy of the image must be held in the woman’s medical record at the abortion facility for seven years.

Rick Santorum's recent characterizing of President Barack Obama as a snob for his higher education policies belies a rarity in modern American politics: Republicans and Democrats are sometimes finding common ground on education issues, including the need for rigorous preparation for education after high school.
Case in point: Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal's education chief, John White (who came highly recommended by Obama's education secretary), is pushing a plan that includes having all public high school students in the state take the ACT, a college admission test, with scores figuring into the evaluation of schools' performance.

Dorothy M. Hedgepeth-Pace

Dorothy M. Hedgepeth- Pace 94 of Stroudsburg died on Saturday Feb.
25, in the Pocono Medical Center E. Stroudsburg. She was the widow of
her first husband of 42 years, John Tom Hedgepeth and her second
husband Richard D. Pace of 12 years.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri she was the daughter of the late
Philip and Katherine (Graham) Miller. Dorothy in her early years
worked for the government as a secretary and later was a homemaker
her entire life.

She was a resident of the Stroudsburg area for the past 4 years and

Graham, Avinger exchange vows

Lindsay Ann Graham, of Ruston, and Patrick Spencer Avinger, of Ovilla, Texas, recently exchanged wedding vows. The couple was married in a 6 p.m. ceremony March 3 at Temple Baptist Church.

Lindsay is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Graham, of Ruston. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Alford, of Sibley, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Graham, of Ruston, the late Mr. Thomas Stephens.

She is the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Lorene Runyon, of Sedan, Kansas.

United Way awards supporters

Employees and individuals alike were awarded Wednesday at a Celebrating Excellence awards luncheon hosted by United Way of Northeast Louisiana.
The 2011 campaign was very successful with the community coming together to exceed their goal.
“The Lincoln Parish Campaign is a very important part of the regional campaign and the growth that we experienced this year,” Bill Hogan, 2011 Lincoln Parish Campaign Chair said. “I was very pleased to announce that we exceeded our goal this year, raising $430,060 — a 26.5 percent increase over last year.”
