Gaskins has 22-point effort in 84-67 win

Trevor Gaskins got more than just a pregame ceremony and an appreciative round of applause from the fans at the Thomas Assembly Center on Saturday afternoon.
The 6-2 point guard from Alpharetta, Ga., also got a career-tying 22 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and a steal in Louisiana Tech University’s 84-67 Western Athletic Conference victory over Hawaii (15-13, 6-6).

Techsters roll past NMSU

A two-game home stand ended much better than it had started for Louisiana Tech University’s Lady Techsters on Saturday night.
The defending Western Athletic Conference champions, who had suffered a 61-49 loss to Hawaii last week, rebounded with a 64-50 win over New Mexico State on Karl Malone Court.
Tech (15-12, 8-4) closed out the home portion of its regular season schedule with the victory and will return to the road next week when playing at Fresno State University on Thursday and at Nevada on Saturday.

’Dogs win twice against McNeese; Bearcats have 3-1 mark in tourney

Alex Williams hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Louisiana Tech University baseball team to a 5-4 victory over McNeese State Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Williams hit a first pitch fastball off of the center field wall to drive in Beau Bayliss and seal the victory
Closer Caleb Dudley gained the victory.

Crowton ‘travelogue’ continues

Ex-Tech head coach to direct CFL team’s offense

The Gary Crowton “travelogue” continues.
Once again, the former Louisiana Tech University head football coach has added another stop to his globetrotting resume.
Crowton, regarded as one of the college game’s top offensive coaches during the past decade, has been hired as the new offensive coordinator of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

DUBACH — It would be frightening enough for opposing teams to know this about
Dubach High School’s 2011-12 girls’ basketball team: the Lady Hornets have believed in winning big and often.
But besides the dominance that Head Coach Theodis Johnson, assistant coach William Fields and their team have displayed for the past five months is this indelible fact: Dubach High figures to be just as tough when the 2012-13 season shows up on the calendar.

Four parish boys’ teams advance in playoffs

Simsboro, Choudrant, Dubach, New Living Word earn quarterfinal berths

Lincoln Parish teams are making a strong case for the area being a power base in Class B and C for boys’ basketball this season.
Evidence enough was proven once again on Friday night when four parish squads advanced in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoffs with regional round victories.

Banquets vital to wild turkeys

Sitting in my pop-up hunting blind on a cool April morning last year, I had a good view of four narrow food plots. Figuratively speaking, I was sitting in the hub of a four-spoke wagon wheel giving me the advantage over any gobbler that elected to waltz in to see what the yelping and clucking from my calls was all about.
I had not heard a single gobble that morning and it was just before deciding to call it a day when I spied a black lump 200 yards down the north lane. My binoculars confirmed I was looking at a wild turkey gobbler my calling had attracted.

Riser returns to Creek Nation

At least that’s the case for Cedar Creek’s softball coach Julie Riser.
After four years at the helm of Choudrant High School’s softball program, Riser has returned to her alma mater to lead the Lady Cougars.
