Here’s how to ‘insure’ a great Valentine’s Day

in
Fallin, Randy.jpg

Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. To celebrate, you may want to present your loved ones with chocolates, flowers or any number of other traditional gifts.
But if your valentine also happens to be your spouse or your life partner, you also might want to show your love in another way  — by making sure you have adequate insurance.

Just consider some of the things that life insurance can do for you and your family:
• Pay off your mortgage — With sufficient life insurance, your family can remain in their home should anything happen to you.

Should you serve as an executor of an estate?

in
Moore, Byron.jpg

Question: My aunt is elderly and has recently asked me to be the executor of her estate when she dies. She does not talk to any of her children anymore and says she trusts me. We have been close for years. Is this a lot of trouble? What do I need to know?

Answer: I liken the responsibility of acting as the executor of a close relative’s estate to bee keeping.
You might end up with a pot of honey. You might get stung. Maybe you’ll get both.

Interest rate changes may affect investments

in
Conville, Bobby.jpg

The rise and fall of interest rates is one of the biggest factors influencing the economy, financial markets and our daily lives.
It is important to have a basic understanding of how interest rate changes could affect not only your wallet but also your investment portfolio.
Simply put, interest rates help control the flow of money in the economy. Typically the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates to jump-start the economy.
Lower interest rates mean consumers may be willing to spend more money as the cost to finance a purchase is relatively inexpensive.

Experimenting with new things in old age

in
Irby, Marna.jpg

Let me say, I am astounded. Today is my 91st birthday. It makes me tired to think about it. Just joking. It’s really quite wonderful to still be around and observe all that goes on around me without having to get too involved. I play up the old, helpless bit pretty good too.
I’m my usual busy self with a variety of activities that keep me hopping. But I don’t hop quite so high these days. I sat down to read the paper yesterday and woke up an hour later. That’s a new wrinkle, but I’ve adjusted to all the changes and have decided when such things happen I’ll just be thankful for the nap, and that I woke up.
