Many of the world’s largest companies are based in America, yet they have operations that span the globe and collectively earn enormous amounts of money from a wide range of commercial activities. Interestingly though, despite their own profit-making ventures, large corporations still seek out investors to help finance some of their activities. Two ways in which they do this are by issuing stock, which represents ownership in the company, or by selling bonds, which puts you — the individual investor — in the position of making a loan to a big company.

Grambling gave its legendary head coach a big win

GRAMBLING — Despite a record of 1-6, it’s safe to say that the Lady Tigers’ basketball team, led by returning head coach Patricia Cage-Bibbs, is no joke.
Bibbs said she will return exciting basketball to Grambling State University and in their home opener against 4-3 Stephen F. Austin recently, that’s exactly what fans witnessed at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Arena.

Tech’s Holley honored academically

Senior running back named to CoSIDA All-American team

TOWSON, Md. – Louisiana Tech graduate student Ray Holley was named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team Thursday as selected by the Capital One Academic All-America® Division I football team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America organization.
Holley joins Nebraska’s Rex Burkhead as the two running backs named to the first unit of the prestigious squad.

The Louisiana Tech head coach spent seven of her eight WNBA seasons playing home games at the historic arena for the New York Liberty.
Today, the former five-time WNBA All-Star leads her Lady Techster team into MSG as they face Rutgers at 10 a.m. CDT in the first game of the 2012 Maggie Dixon Classic.

RPAR receives donations from Walpole Tire Service

he Michelin Soccer Program and Walpole Tire Service of Ruston have donated more than $650 in both funds and equipment to the Ruston Parks and Recreation Department.
These funds will help provide scholarships, uniforms and other soccer essentials for the participating leagues.

Deer stand names require creativity

Calling ‘em deer “stands” is a misnomer. Most of us don’t stand; we sit. It’d make more sense to say we were going to climb a tree and hunt out of our deer “seat”, which could be a chair, or stool, or board nailed between two branches.
However, we need to accept the fact that we climb and sit down in deer stands. Even the hunting catalogs call ‘em deer “stands” so if they’re good enough for Cabela’s they ought to be good enough for us.
