Voice views on sagging pants ordinance

During the November regular Grambling City Hall meeting, Police Chief Tommy Clark brought up the issue of creating an ordinance to ban sagging pants under the pretense of indecent exposure inside the municipal limits of Grambling.
It was during the same meeting that Clark stated he had received complaints from community members about other residents — largely of the young adult demographic — exposing their undergarments through a trend known as sagging.

Man's concerns target gun column

It is supremely bad form to write an opinion piece in opposition to matters that involve incontrovertible facts, and for the sake of the reputation of journalism, I wish Ms. Schilling had at least attempted a cursory investigation into the subject of her article (“Gun Laws: We can do better,” Dec. 23, 2012). I would like to address at least a few of the glaring factual errors.

Smoking on campus debated

It is about time someone lit up the topic of on-campus smoking, and all of us smokers are feigning for a good fight.
A few weeks ago, a Student Government Association senator wrote a resolution to ban smoking on campus. For those who don’t know, a resolution is essentially a formal recommendation for the university administration but it must be passed in the SGA before action may be taken.
Resolution No. 12-13.3 says “The student body would encourage the administration to take consideration in taking the steps necessary in making Louisiana Tech a smoke-free campus.”

An old look at new year

Happy New Year to all of you. I hope that your Christmas season and celebration was enjoyable and meaningful. I hope for all of us that we move past the commercialism of the season and keep our focus on that which is truly important.
We now approach Tuesday, a holiday with which I would debate. I wish that New Year’s Day was in September at the beginning of the school year and football season. Having the celebration of the “new” year right after Christmas is just a little bit too much holiday time for me during such a short period. And I have not always been alone in this sentiment.
