La. Tech journalism students gain mentoring experience through project

Louisiana Tech students in a sophomore-level journalism class this fall got the opportunity not only to learn how to be better editors, but to also put those skills into practice by mentoring high school students.
In Journalism 220: Copy Editing, students are taught to be effective editors in the workplace, and they created short how-to videos explaining journalistic writing and editing for students at Farmerville High School.

Celebrating Top Gains

Ruston Junior High School was recently feted with a celebration honoring the faculty and staff for its role in the school achieving recognition as a Louisiana Top Gains school. Hosted by Lincoln ACHIEVE, the event featured a special reception by Aramark along with congratulatory comments from Superintendent Danny Bell, Director of Personnel Mary Null and ACHIEVE Coordinator Cathi Cox-Boniol.
Teachers Dwana Schmidt-Ward and Jan Norwood enjoyed the buffet.

Teams achieve top awards in Lego League competition

The A.E. Phillips Lego Legends, competing for the first time this year, were excited to bring home the top award in the Core Values competition at the regional tournament in Shreveport at SciPort.
The AEP RoboDogs won the top award for Robot Design and were also judged the overall best team for the regional competition.
Both AEP teams qualified to advance to the state competition to be held Dec. 8 in New Orleans.

Featured on softball schedule is hosting of WAC tourney

It won’t be all that long before the Louisiana Tech University diamond teams start their 2013 campaign.
Both the baseball and softball squads recently unveiled their schedules.
A look at the games to be played by both teams:
Bulldogs
Head coach Wade Simoneaux and the Louisiana Tech University baseball team have announced the 2013 schedule, featuring eight home series at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park over the course of the upcoming season.
