Two the top five teams in Louisiana’s Class 1A ranks will decide who sits atop the District 2-1A standings after Friday night.
It’s No. 1 Ouachita Christian playing host to No. 5 Cedar Creek at the Eagles’ stadium.
No shocker: these two rivals on Interstate 20 have collided in other seasons to determine who takes outright ownership of first place in district play.

Cedar Creek runners tops at meet

Cedar Creek’s K-2 girls and K-2 boys, plus the seventh and eighth grade teams for Ruston Junior High gained championships at the recent Cedar Creek cross country classic meet.
Also taking team crowns were Ruston Elementary in the 3-4 girls’ division, I.A. Lewis of Ruston in the 5-6 boys’ category, A.E. Phillips of Ruston in the 3-4 boys’ division and Claiborne Christian in the 5-6 girls’ division.

RHS cross country teams finish No. 1

in

Ruston High School’s cross country teams had high finishes at the prestigious, huge Walker Shootout in Walker recently.
The Lady Bearcats placed No. 2 out of 33 entries (207 runners) and the Bearcats were No. 5 in a field of 50 teams (311 runners).
Leading the individual performances for the RHS squads guided by Head Coach Jimmy Williams were Adaiza Austin with a No. 7 finish for the girls and Emanuel Gwan with a No. 10 finish for the boys.

Techsters tabbed No. 2 in WAC

Despite losing five of its top six scorers from a year ago, Louisiana Tech University has been picked second in the Western Athletic Conference preseason coaches and media Poll released by the league office on Wednesday.
The Lady Techsers return six letterwinners and only one starter from last year’s squad that posted a 17-15 record and advanced to the championship game of the WAC tournament before falling to Fresno State.

Bulldogs to host fall World Series

in

The Louisiana Tech University baseball squad will conclude its fall season with the annual Fall World Series set to begin at 6 p.m. Friday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
The series will feature the Tech Gray team competing against the Tech Black team, with both teams being selected and split up in the annual senior draft held this past Monday night.
Both teams were assembled by a group of 10 seniors from this year’s squad with Austin Hedges, Kody Neel, Caleb Dudley, James Ferguson and Trevor Peterson leading the Black team in the series.

Madden duo earn awards

After competing in the Ruston Parks and Recreation Department’s local competition for the annual “Punt, Pass and Kick” event, Parker (left) and Hannah Madden, of Ruston, captured awards at the recent sectional competition in Monroe. Parker was a first place finisher in the boys’ 10-11 age division and Hannah took second place in the girls’ 10-11 category.

RHS alumni to be honored

in

Tickets are on sale for the Ruston High School Alumni Association’s annual homecoming luncheon set for Nov. 2 at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant. Cost is $30 per person. The event begins with fellowship at 11 a.m. and lunch and the program at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets are available at the Community Trust Bank Financial Center, located at 1511 North Trenton St. in Ruston. Deadline for purchase is Wednesday.

Eugenia Louise Barnett

Mrs. Eugenia Louise Barnett, 79 of Crossett, AR, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Ashley County, was a homemaker and was a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mr. Robert Barnett, her parents, Frank & Duel Lambert Watt and two brothers, James & Willie Van Watt.

Mrs. Louise enjoyed fishing, camping and sewing quilts.

Joe Fowler

Joe Fowler, 81, passed away on October 22, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Osie and Lura Fowler; and brother, Jack Fowler. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Ann Fowler; daughter, Julie Kae Fowler; son, Michael Joe Fowler; brother, David Fowler and wife, Carole; nephew, Andy Fowler; and a host of other family and friends.

Harvey E. Britt

Retired Marine Corps Major, Harvey E. Britt went home to be with the Lord Sunday October 21, 2012. He is survived by his wife Donna Stevens Britt of Ruston. Harvey was born on October 1st, 1930 to Hubert and Grace Lee Britt and was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Winford, Aquilla and Clay; and three sisters Virginia, Carol and Margueriet and granddaughter Whitney Leigh and great granddaughter Petra Fry.
