A Louisiana Tech assistant professor and his student will have their work published in upcoming art magazines.
Frank Hamrick, who teaches art, will have his photograph, “Dial,” published in Creative Quarterly Magazine this winter. The photograph was one Hamrick included in his exhibition this past fall at the Enterprise Center.

Red oak tree planted

In observance of Arbor Day, The Ruston Garden Club planted a red oak Shummardi tree at the Lincoln Parish Park in memory of deceased member Sigal Ory. School improvement leads to Eagle Scout Award

Glenview Elementary now has a new and improved courtyard thanks to the efforts of Joshua Crook, of Boy Scout Troop 35.

As an Eagle Scout project, the Ruston High School junior directed 11 scouts and adult leaders in the re-construction of an existing gazebo and replacing a hazardous gravel pathway with brick.

Glenview Elementary’s courtyard was intended for relaxation and education purposes, but has weathered beyond that use.

Rotary honors January students of month

The Ruston Rotary Club proudly announces the recipients of the January Student of the Month Award. Recognized by Rotarian Jim Tuten, each student was honored at the Jan. 18 luncheon and presented an award of achievement by incoming club president Stephen Williams. Each awardee has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and been active in extra curricular activities and leadership roles on their respective school campus.

Wow! We cannot believe how fast this school year is flying by for Cypress Springs. After having a very relaxing Christmas and New Year’s Holiday, our students have returned to school ready to set our minds on the second semester.
Our first semester was full of fun and learning. Our PBIS program has been very successful with our many events and the behavior at CSE has greatly improved this year. Many thanks to all of our sponsors and parents who have helped us with everything we do.

Conference rivals collide in ‘White Out’ game tonight

Louisiana Tech University’s basketball Bulldogs have proved their mettle on the treacherous Western Athletic Conference trail.
Now, first-year Head Coach Michael White and his team want to do it at home.
The ’Dogs are back on the Karl Malone Çourt tonight for a hoops’ version of “Battle of the Bone,” one that matches up the young Tech squad against Fresno State starting at 6 p.m.

Aldredge receives All-American honors

Northwestern State receiver, ex-Cedar Creek star named to network squad

NATCHITOCHES — Senior tight end Justin Aldredge has joined his grandfather, Corwyn Aldredge, on Northwestern State’s elite group of football All-Americans after being named a second-team selection on the Beyond Sports Network Football Championship Series All-America Team, while NSU juniors Derek Rose and John Shaughnessy received honorable mention recognition.
It’s the first time in school history two members of the same family have earned All-America honors among 42 players to have received that distinction in 102 years of NSU football. Corwyn Aldredge was a 1964 All-America pick as a defensive end.

RHS co-captains honored

Earning co-captain honors for the 2011 Ruston High School football team which held its annual postseason banquet earlier this week were senior defensive back Cyril Noland (left) and senior offensive lineman Joseph Brunson. Presenting the awards was RHS defensive coordinator J.P. Dunbar (right). Noland and Brunson were also recognized at the banquet for being honorable mention Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State members and on the first unit of the All-Lincoln Parish “Elite 22” and District 2-5A squads. Both helped RHS finish at No. 14 in the state poll for 5A.

Ginn is top Cougar

Senior running back Austin Ginn was chosen as the Outstanding Player for Cedar Creek High School’s 2011 football team which recently held its postseason banquet. Ginn ranked as one of the Top 10 scorers and ground gainers in the state during his final season for the Cougars, who placed No. 5 in the final Class 1A Louisiana Sports Writers Association state poll.

Dubach girls win, now 25-4

DUBACH — Dubach High’s girls are making some big noise in Class C basketball this season.
Ask their opponents, more than 20 of which have now fallen to the Lady Hornets.
Dubach raised its overall record to 25-4 and remained perfect in District 2-C action with an early week win of 65-36 over Grambling High School.
