New cameras add security to Tech, Ruston

Louisiana Tech University has taken yet another step to bettering the Ruston community.
However, this time it entails placing 34 new security cameras in various locations around the campus.
In recent years there have been several incidents where students have been taken advantage of in one way or another. In each of these cases had there been security cameras the offenders may have been apprehended more easily.

Facebook prompts concerns

In a day and time where technology thrives beyond measure, is there such a thing as technology becoming too advanced?
Facebook, launched in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and his college roommates, was originally only open to a very limited number of people.
However, it did not take long before the founders decided to expand — first to other colleges in the Boston area, universities nationwide, high-school students and eventually to anyone above age 13.

Child refuses to join PE class

Question: According to his physical education teacher (kindergarten), our son has recently started refusing to participate in class. He sits off to the side and pouts. She said he won’t tell her what the problem is.
This is a very active child who comes home and plays outside with other kids most of the afternoon. We tried to talk to him about it but like the teacher, got nowhere. What should we do?
Answer: If your son has no difficulty making friends and enjoys being active, then the first thing to do is play Sherlock Holmes to see if you can discover any clues that might explain this mystery.

Edmiston appointed state vice-chair

Kyle Edmiston, CDME, president/CEO for the Ruston Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau, was recently appointed as state vice-chair on the board of directors for Southeast Tourism Society for the state of Louisiana.
Edmiston’s appointment is effective immediately for the 2012 fiscal year.
The vice-chair provides advice to STS staff and is an avenue for ideas and communications between STS members within the member’s state and the STS office.

Roberts, Garner wed

Loran Marie Roberts, of Ruston, and Jarad Wade Garner, of Dallas, Texas, were married at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 31 at Temple Baptist Church in Ruston. Rick Byargeon officiated the ceremony.

Loran is the daughter of Conroy and Krista Hines, of Corinth, Texas, and Jay Roberts, of Dubach. She is the granddaughter, of Norman and Ruth Ellen Hanna, of Dubach, Ted and Carolyn Roberts, of Dubach and Conroy and Jacque Hines, of Monroe.
