Junkin forever linked to Giants-49ers

Ex-Tech player still asked about errant deep snap in ’03 playoffs

It’s nine years later and Trey Junkin still can’t escape the nightmare.
Later today, the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers will hook up in a battle for the NFC championship and a berth in Super Bowl XLVI.
Those were the same two teams who collided in 2003 for an NFC title.
There’s no need to nudge Junkin and say, ‘Hey, man, you played in that game didn’t you?’ ”
Yes, he did and as fate would have it, the former Louisiana Tech University star is arguably the one player whose name is quickly associated with the outcome.

Inferior photos spoil the hunt

This has been a deer season to remember, especially as it relates to the size and the number of trophy bucks taken around the state. Having had the privilege of writing and marketing stories about a number of these deer, I can attest to the quality of the bucks taken.
Unfortunately, I can also attest to the inferior quality of many of the photographs taken of these special animals at the end of the hunt.

Ruston Elementary supports the ’Dogs

Nearly 200 members of the third, fourth and fifth grade classes at Ruston Elementary School cheered on Louisiana Tech University’s basketball Bulldogs during a recent game against Idaho at the Thomas Assembly Center. The group was accompanied by Ruston Elementary School Principal Shavonne Garner-Price and had participated in homework projects and a meal of hot dogs before attending the game. Tech players Cordarius Johnson, JL Lewis and Trevor Gaskins recently visited the school to speak with youngsters about the importance of getting an education and working hard in all endeavors. Admission to the game was sponsored by Trinity United Methodist Church.

Thomas tennis tourney concludes action today

The third annual Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Eddie Thomas Memorial Tennis Tournament will wrap up today at the Louisiana Tech University courts.
Competition is being held in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

‘Inside Tech Basketball’ scheduled Monday night

The next edition of “Inside Tech Basketball” presented by Miller Light will be held Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Scott’s Catfish on Farmerville Highway in Ruston.
The one-hour radio show features Bulldog Head Coach Michael White and Lady Techster Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon.
