Ex-Tech star Millsap has big night in Jazz win

It was all about rhythm for Paul Millsap on Sunday night.
The former Grambling High School and Louisiana Tech University star registered a double-double to lead the Utah Jazz to a 106-96 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
Millsap finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds for his top all-around performance of the young NBA season.

LTC system worth funding

While four-year universities like Louisiana Tech and Grambling State watch funding to their colleges diminish, another campus in the parish managed to escape state budget cuts and continue providing training to those in need.
Louisiana Technical College’s campuses in Ruston and Farmerville managed to squeeze by in the mid-year budget reductions without losing a single dollar thanks to the fact they had no open vacancies.

The Louisiana Master Gardener program is a service and educational activity offered by the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. The program is designed to recruit and train volunteers to help meet the educational needs of home gardeners while providing an enjoyable and worthwhile service experience for volunteers.
Experienced and beginning gardeners seeking up-to-date horticultural information can advance their gardening expertise and gain self-satisfaction through volunteer efforts.

Man arrested on battery charge

After an abuse complaint made by a Lincoln Parish resident, a man was arrested Monday afternoon.
Dwaun Jarelle Harris, 26, of 217 Gahagan Road No. 32, Simsboro, was arrested for domestic abuse battery, child endangerment and child desertion after allegedly beating the mother of his two young children, while she reportedly held their 9-month-old son.
The victim filed a complaint with Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office stating that Harris had beat her after she told him she was leaving.

Barnes, Sasser exchange vows

Jessica Barnes, of Choudrant, and Darrell Kody Sasser, of Tioga, recently exchanged wedding vows. The couple was married in a 6 p.m. ceremony Dec. 10 at the Bridge Community Church.
Jessica is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Barnes, of Choudrant. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Barnes, of Choudrant, and Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Hammons, of Choudrant.

Kody is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth “Cannonball” Sasser, of Tioga. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. D.K. Sasser, of Florien, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gintz,, of Tioga.

Gray, Harris wed in December ceremony

Beverly Ann Gray and Chad Remon Harris, of Ruston, were joined in marriage Dec. 17 at the National Guard Armory Building in Ruston.

The Rev. Stephen Murphy, pastor of Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Gibsland and cousin of the bride, officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Betty Jenkins, of Ruston, and the late Ben Frank Gray Sr.
She is the granddaughter of Essie Mae Cole, of Lisbon, and the late Arthur Cole; the late Arvell Gray Sr. and the late Elsie Mae Gray.

Ernestine Lovelady Tatum

Funeral services for Mrs. Ernestine Lovelady Tatum, age 94, of Dubach will be held at 10 A.M. Wednesday, January 18, at First Baptist Church in Dubach.

Officiating the service will be Rev. Todd Free, assisted by Bro. Barry Joyner and Dr. Connie Ward. Interment will follow at Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Ernestine was born February 3, 1917, in Lillie, LA, to E.D. (Judge) and Linnie Lovelady. She passed away on January 15, 2012, following a brief illness.
