Shortly thereafter, the bids will be publicly opened and read aloud in the Purchasing Agent's office. Bids received after the 10:00 A.M. deadline will be returned to the bidder unopened.

Sharon Shaffer Shepherd

Funeral services celebrating the life of Sharon Shaffer Shepherd will be held Monday, February 6, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Howington and Reverend Ed Dilworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove United Methodist Cemetery. Mrs. Shepherd passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at her home.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 5-8 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.

Monroe Larry “Ish” Ingram, Jr.

Monroe Larry “Ish” Ingram, Jr. Aug. 11, 1936 - Dec. 19, 2011, graduated from Ruston HS and La Tech. He was a band director and lived many years in Longview, TX. His three children, David A. Ingram, Laurie Ingram Ebarb and Pattie Ingram Woytkewicz, all live in Texas. His brother, J. W. Ingram preceded him in death. He is survived by sisters Barbara Ferguson and Patricia Bailif and brother-in-law, Tommy Bailif.

Spanish dancing to sizzle

It has been a decade since Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, a premier company in the country, has performed in Ruston.
But the company is back yet again to expose community members to the art of Flamenco Dance.
Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Howard Auditorium.
Carlota Santana, artistic director and founder of the dance company, said they were coming back to the area because they were asked.

Legislative session nearing

Jefferson, Shadoin speak out

When the final results were tallied in October and November for the District 11 and 12 Louisiana House of Representative seats, two new leaders were chosen to represent our area.
In District 11 (Lincoln, Bienville and Claiborne parishes), it was Arcadia Democrat Patrick Jefferson who would take home the victory, while District 12 (Union and Lincoln parishes) saw Ruston Republican Rob Shadoin walk away with the win.
These two “rookie” legislators will be heading to their first session in Baton Rouge that begins March 12, and the road preparing for this milestone has been a busy one.

Roaf named for pro Hall of Fame

William Roaf has added to Lincoln Parish’s membership in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The former Louisiana Tech University offensive lineman was one of six individuals announced Saturday as a member of the 2012 class of inductees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Roaf, who earned All-American honors for the Bulldogs before going on to be a perennial Pro Bowl performer in the National Football League, is the seventh former parish collegiate player to earn the sport’s highest honor.
