Growing up's aches and pains

BROOKS, BRENDA.jpg

I usually get up with a positive attitude and a smile, after I have gotten my Diet Sprite with cherry. But this morning quickly twisted my cheery smile into a contemplating scowl. There weren’t any signs from the recent derailment, so I had assumed the road was open. Each time a kid got called to the principal’s office, we assumed they were getting paddled. I recall my third-grade teacher punishing students by making them sit up on their knees in front of their desks or standing with their nose against their locker.

Ruston High’s defense will have to be in a different mode of operation on Friday night.
After confronting two opponents who prefer to move the football on the ground, the Bearcats will now deal with one that prefers the airways.
“Minden is quite different from Byrd and Neville in that they like to throw the ball 70 percent of the time,” said RHS Head Coach Billy Laird about his team’s 7 p.m. home assignment.

Quinton Patton is more than just a fast, sure-handed wide receiver for Louisiana Tech University.
Add this label to his blossoming resume: outstanding leader.
“He’s the type of player who gets everybody excited to play or practice,” said senior Bulldogs’ linebacker Adrien Cole. “It could be the gloomiest day of the week and Quinton comes in with a big smile on his face and raring to go. He’s very energetic and it rubs off on everybody else on our team.”

See you at the pole
Bethel Christian students, faculty and families gathered Wednesday at their flagpole for the annual “See You At the Pole” event to pray for their school, community and country. Not only does the school begin each day with the Pledge of Allegiance and pledges to the Bible and Christian flag, but the school also engages in daily prayer time. This practice is expanded upon in daily Bible classes and weekly chapel services. All students as young as those in the Pre-K2 program memorize Bible verses along with their scripture locations.
