Sonny Dykes sees Saturday’s season-opening game as another step towards overall progress for the Louisiana Tech University football program.
“We’ve come a long ways from a year ago,” said the second-year head coach of the Bulldogs. “We’ve got more talent, the players are used to what we’re doing and we’re further along than we had been previously. We’ve got high expectations for the program. Now, we’ll see how we respond to it.”

Parish presters kick off season tonight

For Lincoln Parish’s three teams and the rest of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association membership, the preseason hoopla officially ends this weekend.
Football, the regular season version, is back under the lights on Friday night.
While some teams around the state had their first games Thursday night, the vast majority get their 2011 campaign under way tonight, including the parish’s representatives.

BATON ROUGE — Anticipation has been sacked by anxiety in Tigertown, as wave after wave of negative news has overwhelmed talk of contention for yet another national championship for LSU.
Certainly, the Tigers are still a prime contender, ranked No. 4 in both major preseason national polls heading into Saturday’s season-opening showdown with No. 3 Oregon in Arlington, Texas (7 p.m., ABC).

Hearn to guide Kittens again

GRAMBLING — Fred Hearn is back again as the head football coach at Grambling High School for the 2011 football season.
For the second straight year, Hearn will be guiding the way for the Kittens in their season opener. They travel to Coushatta tonight to take on Red River High School. Kickoff time will be 7 p.m.
With five home games and five away games, the Kittens are expecting to have a winning season this year.
