Temple Baptist expands through years
090111 Temple Baptist pic BW.jpg

With its roots firmly planted in Ruston, Temple Baptist Church’s ministry has branched out over its 85-year history to become international in scope.
In the church’s early years, Temple’s congregation worshiped in the Tabernacle, a frame building on Alabama Avenue. That was replaced by a brick structure, which was later supplemented with an Education-Administration Annex and a Family Life Center.

ACT scores good for all

Lincoln Parish School System employees are excited by the ACT scores that students brought home last school year.
Though overall the scores decreased by a small margin, Donna Doss, Lincoln Parish school improvement and accountability coordinator, said that other school systems in the state that decreased had done so by a much larger amount.
Additionally, the parish tied with LaSalle Parish for the third highest average score in the state. The average composite score for Lincoln Parish was 20.9, which is higher than the 20.2 average score statewide.

Obama critics in the wrong

Some days start the same as any other. Things just seem to flow smoothly, with minor annoyances, but most of all, you feel at the end of the day as if you have accomplished all tasks. But then you have those days that start off bad from the beginning, when you just know it will be one of those where you will have to fight “tooth and nail” no matter what comes! Behold the power of love

in
LAURA NEW.jpg

It’s amazing how love makes the world go ‘round. Or in some cases, brings it to a halt.
In our particular culture where people get to choose their own marital partners — as opposed to an arranged marriage — they typically encounter many potholes and veer off course several times as they travel down the highway they hope will lead to love.
Unfortunately, the rituals in which people engage to achieve the goal of ever-lasting-love can at times be inconvenient to innocent bystanders.

EPA's asking too much

in
Juneau, Dan.jpg

When I was a kid, there was a personable little cartoon character named Casper the Friendly Ghost.  He was harmless, likeable and not at all scary once you got to know him.  Last month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency unleashed a new air rule called the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule.  The acronym (CSAPR) is pronounced like Casper, but this ghoul is harmful, huge and will scare the living daylights out of you. This is EPA’s third attempt at such a rule, and the third time is not the charm here.

Longtime series resumes at Brown Stadium Friday

All that is required to determine the extent of one of the country’s best and longest running rivalries in high school football is this:
There is only a two-victory differential in the 85 games that have been waged through the years between Ruston and Neville.

Isham, Williams get thrown into college ‘fire’ quickly
2 QBs.jpg

Yes, Nick Isham and D.J. Williams have started shaving.
Just a little joke there to make sure everyone realizes that, while still barely out of their prom days in high school, the tandem is wise beyond their years in terms of football.
