RHS ready to get ‘mad’ about football

This weekend, the madness officially kicks off for the 2011 Ruston High School football season.
On Friday, the Bearcats have their and only scrimmage of fall training camp.
Then on Saturday, the school’s annual “Bearcat Madness” event will be held at James Stadium.
Head Coach Billy Laird and his staff will direct the’Cats into a 6 p.m. scrimmage against Richwood High at the Rams’ field in Monroe.
The preseason test will arrive just over a week before an Aug. 27 “Jam at the Joe” date against Shreveport Loyola Prep at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Caputo joins Lady Techsters’ staff

Louisiana Tech head coach Teresa Weatherspoon announced Wednesday that she has hired David Caputo as an assistant coach, completing her women’s basketball staff for the upcoming 2011-12 season.
Caputo, who will be in charge of the post players development and assisting with recruiting and defensive schemes, has been highly successful as both an assistant coach and head coach on both the men’s and women’s side as well as all levels of intercollegiate basketball.

Teachman starts with 76

in

HENZHEN, China — LSU senior and former Simsboro High School student Tessa Teachman survived a struggle at the start of her round to post a four-over 76 in the first round of the World University Games golf event at the Mission Hills Golf Club on Wednesday in Henzhen, China.
Teachman, tripped the par four second hole but stayed the course to shoot three-over on the front nine and just one-over on the final nine holes to post a four-over 76 on the opening day, good for a tie for 21st place in the field of 75. In the team competition, the American team is in a tie for sixth at four-over 148. The 72-hole event ends on Saturday.

ODell Madison

Funeral Services for Mr. ODell Madison will be held Saturday, August 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Clay, La with Pastor Kenneth Sapp, officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

ODell Madison was born February 13, 1955 in Monroe, LA to Reddie Madison Owens and O. D. Thurman. He departed this earthly life on August 12 at Minden Medical Center.

ODell accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and remained a member until his death.

Funeral services for Mr. Howell Raedell Tatum, Sr., age 85 of Ruston, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 19, 2011 at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston. Rev. Tommy Gray will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Choudrant Memorial Cemetery in Choudrant.
