Bearcats’ Noland commits to Tech

Louisiana Tech picked up its second commitment of the season Wednesday, as Ruston High School product Cyril Noland committed to the Bulldogs.
Noland participated in Nike Sparq combines this spring and summer. He increased his rating over 45 points from the Houston combine in March to a 114.48 in the Dallas combine.
Noland told BleedTechBlue.com he felt comfortable at Tech and ultimately was why he committed to the Bulldogs.

Banks, Exama receive berths on A-A squad

GRAMBLING — Cliff Exama and Sanford Banks earned All-Southwestern Athletic Conference first unit honors for Grambling State University in 2010.
For the 2011 season, could they be on their way to even more prestigious recognition?
Both key members of the Tigers’ squad have been chosen as preseason All-Americans by the boxtorow.com website, which is devoted to athletics’ programs among Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Alsup has good start in pro debut

Ben Alsup is making a steady transition into the professional baseball ranks.
The former Ruston High School two-sport star who completed a baseball career at LSU in the spring has a 2.10 earned run average and 2-1 record for the Tri-City (Wash.) Dust Devils of the Class A Short Season Rookie League.
Alsup, who was a No. 18 round draftee of the Colorado Rockies in June, has struck out 27 batters and allowed opposing hitters a .193 average after eight appearances.

Duncan wins RCC club championship

Chris Duncan is No. 1 on the Ruston Country Club golf course.
He recently finished with a commanding 12-stroke lead over his nearest competitor to capture the title at the 2011 RCC club championship tournament.
Duncan totaled 146 strokes, while runnerup Daryl Altic ended with 158 strokes, as did third place finisher Chris Rathburn.

Donald Reggie Trant

Funeral services for Donald Reggie Trant, 56, of Choudrant will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 12, 2011 at Douglas United Methodist Church. Pastor Charles Penuell is officiating. Interment follows at Douglas Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home Ruston.

Reggie was born on Jan. 30, 1955 in Shreveport, LA and passed away on Aug. 10, 2011 in Ruston, LA. He was a skilled switcher in oil/gas industry for ArkLa Gas/Devon Gas Co. He loved to fish and ride his motorcycles. He will be missed by many. Reggie was preceded in death by his parents James and Lona Trant.
