1. What was your favorite part of being recently inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame?: It had to be going in with two of my former teammates, Morten Andersen and Buford Jordan. We had shared a lot of great times when we were with the Saints and then to be able to go in at the same time, it made for a very special moment.
2. As part of the famous “Dome Patrol” linebacking corps with the Saints, did you often think you didn’t get as much recognition or was maybe considered underrated?

District 5 club has home series

Louisiana’s District 5 team is only a week away from defending its title in the annual Big League Southwest Regional tournament.
First things first, however.
Coach Eddie Parkman’s squad, with 20-plus wins, will have a three-game series against NOLA of New Orleans this weekend.
A single game is set for 7 p.m. tonight, then a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m., on Saturday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

Matthew Brewer was among the leading performers for the Lincoln Parish 4-H archery team during recent tournament action. He finished No. 15 in the senior division of the national qualifying competition and helped the club win several awards at the annual North Louisiana Regional Archery Competition held in Grand Cane.

Musical theater shines down on Ruston

The Broadway musical “Annie” was originally performed in 1977. Since then it has become one of the most well-known plays across the nation.
However, many have forgotten about the time, money and dedication that it takes to produce such a play. The Chumley family is an exception to this.
The local production of “Annie” on July 28 will mark the beginning of the Gayle and Lucy Chumley Musical Series.

Keep a lookout for Lincoln Parish

A good neighbor is one of the most effective crime prevention tools there is.
So as a Lincoln Parish homeowner, I was very pleased when Sheriff Mike Stone called asking to meet in order to do a story about his plans to revive the parish’s Neighborhood Watch program.
We’re fortunate in Lincoln Parish to have a relatively low crime rate. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have crime, and it’s a proven fact that neighborhood watch programs can be a big deterrent for criminals.

Ruston alderman makes ‘biting’ statements

City Council approves VDCI proposal for local mosquito control services

Feeling left out of the loop really “bugs” Elmore Mayfield.
The Ruston alderman expressed his displeasure this week during the monthly City Council meeting when a recommendation was made for mosquito control services.
City Water Utilities Operations Manager Troy Whitman told the aldermen he received proposals from two companies — Vector Disease Control Inc. in Ruston and Advanced Mosquito Control in Mississippi — for their services to spray for mosquitoes, monitor for larvae, perform service calls and other mosquito surveillance.

Funeral services for Paulette Murray Pearson, age 59, of Dubach, LA will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, July 9, 2011 at New Prospect Baptist Church in Dubach, LA. Officiating the service will be Rev. Mickey Manning. Interment will follow at Hamilton Cemetery in Dubach, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Paulette was born on October 28, 1951 and passed away July 6, 2011.
