Arrest won’t keep GSU’s Exama off field

Grambling State University senior linebacker Cliff Exama will be on the field when the Tigers open preseason football practice on Thursday despite facing some offseason issues.
Exama, 22, turned himself in to the Grambling State University Police Department on July 21 after being advised he was being charged with second degree battery for an incident that occurred in April. GSU Interim Police Chief Freddie Peterson then transported Exama to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Exama was released on a $3,000 bond.

Tech picked to finish fourth

LAS VEGAS— Louisiana Tech has been projected to finish fourth in the Western Athletic Conference this season in both the coaches and media preseason football polls that were released by the league office Thursday. Tech (5-7, 4-4 WAC last season) is entering its second season under head coach Sonny Dykes and is expected to improve upon its on-the-field performance despite a challenging schedule that will be a definite test for the Bulldogs.

Challenging schedule could be tough for Bulldogs

From everything seen on paper and on the field, Louisiana Tech may very well be a much improved and better team in 2011 compared to its 2010 roster. However, that improvement may be marred by a challenging schedule. Tech is put to the test very early in the year as the Bulldogs open the season against a historic and regional rival at Southern Mississippi.

North Louisiana’s District 5 Big League baseball team looks to remain unbeaten in tourney play as it faces the U.S. Southeast region team at 6:30 p.m. today. District 5 stands at 1-0 after taking a 4-3 opening round win over the U.S. West region team from Northern California on Wednesday.

Louisiana Tech University Lady Techsters’ Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon (left) was named recently as one of the Top 15 players in Women’s National Basketball Association history. The former defensive star and on-the-court leader for two different WNBA teams was recognized for the honor by league President Laurel Richie during the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game held recently in San Antonio, Texas.
