GRAMBLING — One thing is guaranteed about Grambling State University’s 2011 football season:
The Tigers will have a new starter at quarterback.
With versatile Anthony Carrothers having departed earlier this summer, the preseason favorites to win a Western Division championship in the Southwestern Athletic Conference will have to find a new leader and quick.

1. What has been your most famous moment or highlight of your athletic career?: I played high school (at Powers Catholic High in Flint, Mich.). We had a game televised on the weekly Game of the Week. I played offensive tackle and, on one play, I blocked three guys at one time and the announcer called it “devastating.” That’s my only highlight (laugh).

They are, but one report incorrectly has Texas East as regional champ

Will it be Louisiana’s District 5 or Texas East representing the Southwest Regional in the Big League World Series set for next week?
Well, It is officially the District 5 team.
But earlier this week, a headline in a Houston newspaper concerning the championship round of the Southwest Regional tournament held in Ruston on Monday had Texas East heading to Easley, S.C.

’Spoon, Johnson honored by Liberty

Teresa Weatherspoon and Vickie Johnson formed one of the most formidable one-two punches in the WNBA during the six years they played together for the New York Liberty.
During their time together with the Liberty, Weatherspoon and Johnson helped lead the franchise to three WNBA championship appearances in 1997, 1999 and 2000.
Both former Kodak All-Americans during the collegiate playing days at Louisiana Tech, the dynamic duo were honored this month as they were inducted into the New York Liberty Ring of Honor during ceremonies held at the Prudential Center.
