Dent’s advice to players: Stay in shape

Richard Dent has a three-word message to the locked out NFL players.
It’s “stay in shape.”
Maybe that sounds rather mundane and obvious, given the brutal physical nature of the sport, but the former four-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman mentions it because of the current questionable state of affairs in the league.

NFL dispute ‘making progress’

The NFL told club executives they could be schooled in the ins and outs of the new labor contract as early as Thursday, and the players’ association summoned its leadership for a potential vote — the strongest signs yet the lockout might be nearing an end.
Lawyers for both sides met 8½ hours in New York, including 3½ with a court-appointed mediator, to try to close a deal to resolve the sport’s first work stoppage since 1987. Talks were scheduled to continue Tuesday.

Barnard paces BAC at district meet

BATON ROUGE — Tatman Bernard led a contingent of eight Bulldog Aquatic Club swimmers to a solid finish at the recent district Swimming championships in Baton Rouge.
The 15-year-old Bernard finished first in the 200 freestyle then added three second-place finishes and a third at the event. He also posted three state qualifying times.

Truena Richardson Love, 87, completed her journey on this earth and was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Born to Ralph and Sarah Geneva Richardson on October 7, 1923, in Virden, NM, she attended college in Silver City, NM, where she enjoyed playing volleyball and being a leader in the band in addition to her studies.
