NCLAC seeks proposals for Academy Arts classes

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council (NCLAC) is currently seeking proposals for its fall and winter Academy Arts Classes.
“The Academy is a continuing education program that gives community members an opportunity to expand their creative expression or to enhance existing creative skills,” said Jessica Slaughter, NCLAC’s educational coordinator.
Slaughter said the council is really open-minded and eager to see some fresh ideas. The possibilities are endless. “If you have an interesting niche, something others have encouraged you to share, we want to hear about it,” Slaughter said.

Southwest Region play lifts off

Can Louisiana District 5 team pull a repeat?

Even with a big “bulls-eye” on the back of their jerseys, the Louisiana District 5 team could be on target again for another late summer trip to South Carolina.
That’s where the annual Big League World Series will be held and where the “5” crew has all but become official residents in recent years.
If they can win yet another Southwest Regional tournament title, it would result in a sixth consecutive trip to the quaint, friendly city of Easley later this month and early August.

Texas-Arlington joins WAC

Conference boosts membership to 10 schools in future

The Western Athletic Conference is back in business in the Dallas-Fort Worth area — only not in football.
Having lost TCU and SMU years ago, the WAC returned Thursday by adding one of the lesser-known institutions in the region, Texas-Arlington.
WAC officials approached UTA only two weeks ago, and everything clicked right away. The final step came Thursday with the board of regents for the University of Texas system voting to accept an invitation.

Riser to direct Creek softballers

Julie Riser is returning to her high school alma mater.
The former Cedar Creek High two-sport star has been chosen as the new head softball coach for the Lady Cougars.
“I am excited to announce that Julie Riser will be our next head softball coach,” said Athletics Director Andy Yepson on Thursday. “She comes to us after a long tenure as the head coach at Choudrant High School.”
